So I scraped the marker light and tape of another trailer. Offered him to replace it right away, guy refused and called his dispatcher. Police was called and report was made.
The question is, how do these things usually work out with insurance? Is he gonna send them a bill for $50? IMG_20160315_144715.jpg

He would be an idiot to even let insurance know this happened. I am sure he has a deductible of at least $500. His company may contact you for an amount for damages, at which point you settle for an amount and send them a cheque and the matter is over. If they tell you they want a ridiculous amount, send a cheque for maybe $200 and tell them to sue you for the rest. They won't.

I can't see them calling the insurance and making a 20$ claim?
Probably going to try and extort a couple hundred out of you.
Just curious what the cop thought about being called out for that?

You shouldn't have hit him, BUT with a heavy built trailer like that, it seems anyone would let you fix it.

If that were my trailer, I'd tell you to run and get the parts. I'll grab my tool box. And grab a 6 of cold ones while you're at it. Might get thirsty.

Save that pic. IF you ever hear from them about the incident, send them a piece of reflective tape, a light, and a money order for $5 (to cover the labor to "install" the parts) and consider it settled.

Personally, I would have let you "make it right" right there on the spot. Idiots like that who want to make a federal case out of the smallest little incident might be why some drivers would rather take their chances fleeing the scene. The whole purpose of insurance is to make sure you fix the other guy's stuff when you tear it up. If you're willing and able (especially in a MINOR incident with no structural damage) to make it right immediately, only a real $#!+-for-brains will insist on getting the insurance company involved. Heck, even the cop should have looked at it and laughed, informing him that police reports only need to be filed for incidents exceeding a certain dollar amount...and a $5 light and $2 worth of reflective tape doesn't even come close.

You shouldn't have hit the guy, but since he wanted to be a prick, I'd refuse to pay any more than it would've cost me right there on the scene.

Keep pics, just in case they do put claim in for something crazy.
