Thanks for the replies (even our woman of the year) and I will post pics. I can keep the main 5 spd if that is an option. I just didn't know if the gearing would work. Here is what I used to date the truck.

Yes it will work unless you just have to have an auto. No clutching for the parade bad feet? Swapping to one of those big military Alison's is not a job for the women of the year.
-
I'm wondering, was this a glider? That sticker on the engine looks aftermarket, nit Cummins.
-
Nothing auto and the Allison is not huge. Manual 5 spd and 3 spd in the truck. I'll run the 5 spd by itself if the gearing works. I may tow a ratted trailer, similar to a 16' with two 3500lb axles to haul my dad's '39 John Deere tractor to shows which he now tows on a 16' double axle trailer behind his pick-up. What is a glider (besides a piece of canvas stretched over an aluminum frame that rides wind currents)???
I was told the truck has a Hendricks suspension. It has an aluminum frame with a steel frame over it from the cab back. Thanks for all the help guys! -
A glider is a new truck, with remaned/or from a wreck, engine, transmission, and sometimes rears.
TMoon Thanks this. -
That's why I asked. Look at the engine tag. It is not Cummins, and I think 262s were obsolete by the early 70s, like an N14 in a 2005 truck. You would see one in a glider, not in a factory truck.
Also 5+3. That is something you didn't see in the 70s, although they were common much earlier. If you saw 2 sticks then, except in a Mack, it usually was 5+4.
That's why I asked.BoxCarKidd Thanks this. -
I'm sorry, I didn't read his question.

DL550CAT said just run the 5 spd if I understood him correctly and that would be by far the easiest solution. Is this feasible and where can I find the gearing ratios?
-
Clutch needs to be adjusted. TA or PETRO adjusts clutches

When I learned how to drive, which was in a 1964 Peterbilt with a 262, and 4+4, it could be straight sticked, bobtailing.BoxCarKidd Thanks this.
