My boss told us we are to stop using paper logs and start using this app exclusively. Any advice or tips on how to use it?

I use it, no problems. Haven't had a problem with DOT even in Oregon. I don't carry a printer or anything. You just need to email your last 7 days if DOT ask.

I've been using it every day for about a year, minus my off times. The office people love it cuz they don't hafta read my chicken scratch. I love it because it tells me if I'm in violation. And I can change things around if I gotta. I never hafta try and figure out where I am, because the location feature does it for me. I have to disagree with the last poster...I had a level 2 inspection about six weeks ago and was told at that time to give him hard copies of my logs for the last seven days. Thankfully I have a printer in my truck. If you poke around for the law regarding this, you'll find something saying you gotta be able to give the dot cat hard copies. In the past, there was a lot of talk about 'oh well I can email them, or fax them, or my company can do that for me'...when I asked about that the response was 'how am I gonna get emails or faxes in my patrol car?' Long story short bro I'd spend the fifty bucks for a cheap wallyworld printer. Better to be outta inspection in five minutes than arguing with that leo that's just itching to throw you some violations. Yeah I know...that never happens.

I started using it about two weeks ago, like it for the most part. I keep forgetting to change duty status on it but you can edit anyways.

Being an owner/operator I just send a copy to my e-mail daily so there is a copy at the office and I have my copies on the phone when driving.

Easy to use, just no North of 60 rules in it so I just notate in comments when I run north and ignore any violations it thinks occurred.

Can you delete a day? I didn't download the app until late in the day and I was on paper logs. For some reason the app put my whole day today as off duty. Just want to delete it and start fresh tomorrow with it.

You can change the off duty day to show what you did.

Well shoot as long as you have the paper log for today then yeah just start the app tmaro...once when my iPad crapped out i had a few days that week on the app and a few on paper...the two are basically interchangeable as long as you have one or the other for any given day. If you're like me and sorta OCD you could always just take the info from your paper log and stick it in your kt app, too. Might be a good way to practice usin it. Couple tips for ya:
    - when you enter your truck and trailer they become your default truck and trailer, so if you change either make sure and change em in the app. If you stay with the same combo unit you never have to mess with entering the numbers.
    - same with your ship docs... Enter your bol #s or whatever you put there and it stays there til your next load. Just one of the annoying things you gotta write out on every paper log that you only gotta do once here.
    - doing the dvir is easy as heck. And you can do multiple dvir's on one day, if you need to.
    - when you're starting your day, if you enter your starting odometer into your log form (it does the miles for ya) it will automatically enter the odo reading into your dvir. Saves ya a few seconds lol

If you have any questions feel free to ask away bro I love this app

Used at my last company till they went to e loggers. Great app. I've read tons of reviews on it and folks were saying DOT loved it to bc they could actually read them.

You can't start the app in the middle of your 70. The hours won't match your paper. You'll have to fill in your logs prior to using the app.

I could be wrong but i don't think cops like looking at tiny cell phone screens. FMCSA regulation states AOBR's must have the ability to print when asked. And also have the ability to be digitally signed. Laptops, cell, and tablets are AOBR. DVIR's aren't required anymore. But sounds like companies still want them.

As for the above poster saying you only need to be able to email or fax. Nevada is one state that will shut you down if you don't have paper. They don't want to look at your AOBR. Been there done that because i didn't have yesterday's log printed. He asked and i printed but apparently he was above FMCSA. Nevada is the only state i've been looked at so far that has yet to actually look at my laptop screen EXCEPT for the current day. Cops will generally look at my 7 day screen while the coops will want my paper. Out here in the west anyways.

That's been my experience with my laptop the entire time i've been out on the road. The rest of you may have different experiences.

If your going to use the app, you better have a hotspot and a wireless printer. You can't connect a printer cable unless your using a laptop, you'll need the hotspot as a wireless router. And the hotspot only works if you have internet signal.

Course, if any of you know of any other ideas to print. Post em please so we all know how. I'm getting to the point of a new printer. And ditching the cable.
