DD15 warranty question

Had a bad oil leak on a 2007 14. Freightliner did the rear seal, and it still leaked. The company I work for pulled the valve cover and found the rear jake loose. oil pressure was blowing out the engine vent. Tightened the jake back down and the oil leak was gone.

 

I have a question for you about a dd15. I have a small fleet of 2012 Cascadia's and one is at freightliner now. Driver noticed a lot of oil consumption (1 gallon every 200 miles), and heavy smoke. The truck has 520,000 on it. Freightliner has now charged me a lot to pull the manifold and they say no internal oil loss and no external oil loss. They tried to do a regen and temp got to over 900 deg. now they are saying its just the one box and it should be good to go after $14,000 in repairs to just change the one box. I just am getting the feeling they are just patching it to get it out the door, not finding the oil consumption issue. Is there something with these engines that cause them to burn oil real bad? Any advice would be great!

Just also want to say that I am a huge Detroit fan but these newer engine def systems are a nightmare. I hope they get better soon before I starve to death.

 

i guess your truck is from big fleet where oil change was done at 50k m. the rings are worn , you need inframe not 1 box change...however could be bad breather too..

 

the more complicated these engines get the more freightliner dealer are getting useless detroit certified shops are the way to go they do something once and make sure its done right the first time
