Those wanting a driver job at "the pound", consider this before you apply. Many small towns can't afford to treat the psychos in their town so they use what is known as the "Greyhound Therapy".

They buy the psycho a one way bus ticket to the next nearest city. The Driver now has to deal with the "psych job".
Just a couple years ago, Las Vegas wanted to rid their streets of the worst of the derilects, so they bought them one way Greyhound tickets to Los Angeles.

San Diego does it too .... http://articles.latimes.com/1990-05-10/local/me-1536_1_greyhound-therapy
There was a psycho on a bus in Wetherford, TX who opened the window and tried to jump out. He was right behind the driver. The driver wrestled with him while driving and managed to keep him in the bus. No passengers offered any assistance. The driver then threw the psycho off the bus at the Greyhound agency (a convenience store). The psycho then grabbed a gas hose from a woman pumping gas, and doused himself. He tried to light a match. The driver sprayed the guy with a water hose.
When the Deputies arrived he grabbed one of their guns. The Deputies finally cuffed the guy and took him away. The Driver continued to Abilene, turned around to return to Dallas, only to find the Deputies back at the Wetherford agency, with the psycho in cuffs and told the driver to drop the guy back off at a hospital in Ft. Worth. Driver refused.
We also haul bus loads of prisoners when they are released from prison. Good luck at Greyhound!

I've ridden on a grey hound only once. I'll never do it again, and I'm not kidding it'd take 7digits for me to put up with that crowd.
And it was Las Vegas to Fontana FYI.
So you might guess that fantastic crowd. Figured free is always good, boy was I wrong. -
I transport detainees for ICE. They are shackled, so we have very few problems.

Does anyone consider driving for Greyhound nowadays? I've heard horror stories but I haven't had issues traveling on them, with exception to the occasional cramped seat.

Let's put it this way. If you like freak shows, people who look like they fell face first in a tackle box, or are on the way to a taping of Jerry Springer, this is a great gig.

Twice I have ridden the Grey Dog. From Oklahoma City to Detroit and from Charlotte, NC back to OKC. Never Again.

Recently my truck broke down in Ypsilanti and my home is in the middle of Illinois. Since I didn't know how long the truck would be down, I went home. If I had known then what I know now, I would have taken Amtrak both ways. As it was I took Greyhound home and Amtrak back. Even though the cost was half, the fellow passengers were completely different on the train.
