I would think that since you are a former leo that you would know more then most about the benefits of turning head lights on especially on two lane roads, at dusk and dawn, and foggy conditions. I dont turn em' on when I'm on the Interstate when its sunny, but they are on all the time on two lane.
Headlights during the day........

The human eye is naturally attracted to bright lights. just like a bug is. It makes you considerably more visible to others.
You actually have to train yourself not to stare at someones headlights at night. It is a natural instinct to look right at them.darthanubis, Lepton1 and rachi Thank this. -
For me it's a military thing. When driving a military vehicle the head lights were always on as long as you weren't in the field. When I got out 19 years ago I kept the habit. I do it in my personal vehicle too.
As for replacing bulbs, been in my current truck since it was new, replaced both head light bulbs once in the last year, that's it.RookieJ1987 Thanks this. -
Ya, many a old farts and ####y felines think twice about pulllin out in front of me when my lights are flyin
I always run headlights lights when loaded...If i had the bucks, i would have strobes everywhere....
I want an electric ambulance horn, and a train horn, and a police siren too....
My pal has a siren on his 10wheel dumptruck..when he gives it a whoop, cell phones drop, feet come off acellerators, joints get put down..its quite amazing, and sad...bottomdumpin, darthanubis, Lepton1 and 1 other person Thank this. -
I've had one turn signal/DRL bulb burn out on my truck since I got it December 2014. I replace them in pairs and keep the other as a spare. I always buy the name brand bulbs because they last longer and don't burn off the orange like the cheaper truckstop bulbs do.

Even that old truck in your avatar has its headlights on!

LED's don't burn out! That's laughablecnsper Thanks this.

They may last longer than bulbs but they do indeed burn out, especially the high power ones we use.

What amazes me is the number of vehicles , mostly 4 wheelers but the occasional rig that are driving along in nearly dark conditions WITH NO HEADLIGHTS ON AT ALL!! These are late model cars with auto headlites, just put the switch on auto and leave it alone. But no ,...
darthanubis Thanks this. -
I have been driving with the headlights illuminated on every vehicle I have operated since getting a license near 4 decades ago, my work truck is no different for one simple reason; increased visibility to other road users. As far as my work truck it is also company policy that the lights be on at all times when operating the vehicle, I imagine there are many companies with like policies.
