Why do people needlessly idle ?

As somebody with a 4-year degree in an earth science related field, I have studied ecology and the whole history of the changes our planet's climate has undergone throughout history. It used to be significantly warmer...warm enough for reptiles to "rule" the planet. Then it cooled down and we saw glaciers pushing deep into what is now the U.S. Then it warmed back up again and the glaciers melted. What we call "the dark ages" was another period of cooler temps, followed again by a period of warmth. All of this happened LONG before we had trucks idling and people driving SUV's. The climate has ALWAYS been changing. In the 70's, they were warning that all of our pollution would plunge us into the next ice age, because temps were declining (as they have done throughout history...it's a cyclical thing). Then, in the 80's, temps started rising again. Now, these SAME "scientists" who were warning about our pollution plunging us into the next ice age were claiming that SAME pollution was causing temperatures to RISE! "Global warming" became the new threat we faced. Problem was, eventually temperatures stopped rising...so now instead of looking foolish (again), they just say "climate change" so they don't have to keep changing their story every time the warming/cooling cycle flips around.

Much of the "science" relied upon by the "climate change" bunch has been proven to be falsified. Even the actual data is not much use, because many of the data recording station sites have been developed. What was once an open field is now an asphalt parking lot...and so the temperature readings are skewed. Not only that, but there has been ZERO correlation (let alone causation) between pollution levels and temperatures. The ONLY thing the "climate change" folks have to back up their claims are computer models...which only spit out results based upon the data entered...so when fraudulent data is entered with biased assumptions as to what that fraudulent data means, the computer model spits out the famous "hockey stick" graph which makes folks like AL Gore a VERY rich man selling things like "carbon credits" to people gullible enough to buy them.

If you want to know the truth about why the climate changes, there is one correlation that exists that should be hard to ignore...but the "climate change" activists readily discount it because it doesn't fit their agenda: Solar activity. When the Sun is active and increases energy it produces, the earth warms. When solar activity decreases, so do temperatures on the earth.

...but there's no way to use solar activity to convince otherwise intelligent people to comply with your left-wing political agenda, so the truth gets ignored.

I don't know lol..I don't see much of it cause I kind of stay on this Laredo deal I'm on but the company I'm leased to hauls alot for BNSF .

Anyway, I took a little heat over my comment. Was told that if I wasn't concerned about it, then I shouldn't mind if my neighbors ignore someone breaking into my garage, or words to that effect.

It's interesting how different people think. Generally I'm for minding my own business, unless it affects me directly, which then makes it my business. And someone breaking into my neighbor's garage is my business in my neighborhood as we generally watch out for each other.

Obviously, there are the major things that everyone should get involved in reporting, like a child abduction. But I certainly can't police everyone around me who does things differently than me, like speeding. I have a hard enough time managing myself and the older I get, the less I care about what others do.

I'm not saying I completely ignore everything. I like to believe I'm somewhere in between two extremes. At one extreme are those who feel a genuine sense of duty to report every infraction that they witness to someone and at the opposite are those who never, under any circumstance snitch, rat, or out someone else for even the most egregious of crimes. I'm probably a little beyond center leaning toward the "not my monkeys, not my circus" end of things.

Yet I still ask questions to help me understand why others might do things differently than me. The more I understand about other people, the better I feel about humanity.

I have hauled rails from one yard to another. Granted it was not very much rail but it was still hauled by a truck.

That stuff we do for BNSF pays well but it's all short haul and that isn't my gig ..I like my hides to Laredo and steel back .

#### I didn't mean to start a war here ...and yes it's my truck with my name on the title and no I don't pull for a cheap mega , I pull a flat and if it's not comfortable to be in the truck with the engine off I run the dang thing !...but I don't feel the need to idle just to hear it run , and if I was in the bush somplace I probably wouldn't shut it off either , I guess I'm just a cheap sob .

Having nothing to do with smarts, jack hole, some folks don't stay in the truck enough to justify spending, or quite frankly see the need, 8-10k on an APU, or in some cases 3-4k on the external generator set up. I don't live in my truck. I spend a portion of my week there, but then its off to the barn. But wadda I know. Carry on.

There is no way the swamp cooler and bunk heater i have cost 8 to 10 k nfw neither of these will work to keep you warm or cool if your in states with weather extremes but they work great for the Pacific Northwest of course when I'm in Calgary and it's minus 15 my truck will never shut off we were not talking about this but if your at jubetts in Portland this time of year I can't see why you need to idle all night.
