What would you have done within 2 months of buying brand new batteries that would have prevented one with an internal manufacturing defect from causing a no-crank situation when you hit the key? I'm all ears! If you've got some hot tip for preventive maintenance that guarantees a NEW battery won't suddenly die, please share with the rest of us!

In case you were wondering, volt meter was showing 14 when I shut down. Temps were in the mid 60's. It hadn't sat more than an hour before attempting to refire.

So what would YOU have done differently?

    Mudguppy and bzinger Thank this.

You're implying that you "take care of your batteries"...so I'm just curious exactly what that entails?

I use Topo.Chico mineral water to clean battery terminals. It's high carbonation level makes it ideal for that. Plus unlike soda, doesn't make a sticky mess.

Doesn't mean they won't quit on you. 1 bad cell in 1 battery is all it takes for it to not crank.

Heat, corrosion and vibration are the biggest killers of a battery.

Nothing you can do to prevent a manufacturing defect. However, it should be a rare event and also I suspect that it would show up sooner rather than later, as in your case.
