Absolutely heroic hahaha
Imagine what would've happened if you were drunk... -
I was offered medical marijuana to help with my PTSD but I declined. There are a few reason, one the effects it has on people can be either short or long so driving when you think you are ok when you are not could get you in trouble. Hell, my partner and I stopped a guy one time for speeding and of course asked him if he had anything to drink. His reply was a couple of beers. That was enough to administer the road screening device. Usually when a person blows, it takes anywhere from 10-20 seconds for the light to change colour if the driver is impaired, green-yellow-red. Well this guy went right from green to red in about 5 seconds. My partner and I thought there must have been something wrong with unit we were using and used the back up device we had but the result was the same. Got the guy back to the detachment and he blew .480, legal is .08!! Because of the high reading we had to take him to the hospital as he was nearing the alcohol poisioning limit. A blood sample was taken, which is more accurate and the blood-alcohol reading came back ar .510. This guy could walk and talk just as normal as anyone that did not have a drink. Yet someone could have just a couple of drinks, not blow .08 and be falling over drunk.
The next reason for not taking it was that, did I really need the hassle everytime I crossed the border, either way. I cannot imagine what it would be like for a commercial driver and a company sure does want one of their drivers stuck at the border a lot wasting valueable driving time. Lastly, as I have found out the hard way, when dealing with PTSD, you really need to be on a strict schedule to take your meds and the time in between cannot be longer than normal. Unfortunately for me, one of my meds needs to be taken a couple of hours before going to sleep. Not knowing when I will be able to stop due to parking at truck stops or rest areas, I had to wait until I stopped for the night before taking that med. Sometimes the time between the morning meds and the night meds could be 14 hours which the doctor advises is way to long for me. Again, I cannot see a company wanting to employ someone if they have to light up in the middle of the day and it could be 24 hours later before they can drive again.
So if your PTSD is very bad, then you might want to rethink a career as a driver doing long haul. I am currently on medical leave due to my med situation and my doctor is already urging me to look for a job with more structured hours so that I can take my meds at the same time each day.nate980 Thanks this. -

Ok and not everyone is the same... So stop the cookie cutter BS too much of that crap in this world... Let's just paint everyone with the same brush and lets just forget about individuality, just chuck it out the window... So anyone who smokes is the same type of person, whoever drinks is all the same type of person, anyone who does both is the same type of person, anyone who does not smoke or drink are all the same type of people... Bad way of looking at things..
When I first started driving truck I didn't realize about the random testing.. I was suppose to be going to the US so the company did drug test screening.. I was upfront and honest with the hiring manager.. Told him straight up I'd fail the test, no point in beating around the bush... He knew I wanted to go the US.. He was very nice and told me that's not a problem that when I feel that I will pass the test to give him a call and he will send me to a doctor they deal with in the town I live in.. 3-4 weeks later I called him up and he sent me in for the pee test.. I passed no problem I was with the company for about 2 years going to the US and never even touched the stuff and like I said I wouldn't even be in the same room or car when my friends did it.. This is called dedicated and setting your priorities.. This has nothing to do with drugs or booze... If you are motivated to get a certain job you will do what it takes to get that job.. The person that will not do this (like the guy you speak about) is not motivated and obviously didn't want the job bad enough.. That is the type of person I wouldn't want.. But I have a news flash for you.. You can get that type of person that lives life straight narrow just as much as someone who drinks or smokes... Motivation or lack off doesn't come from drugs/alcohol it comes from how the person wants to perceive life..
I am sorry but this worlds looks at people with way to much improper judgement... Instead of judging people by work ethics or how they convey themselves in an interview too many people are judged by the way they look or what they do on personal time.. My person life has no bearing on my professional life.. What I do on MY time is MY business UNLESS it affects my work...
I have stretched ears that doesn't make me irresponsible or some low life punk... Others might look at them that way but I am very much the opposite.. I dress very well (dress shirts all the time and kakis usually), I am very polite with people and always wanting to help out.. I am very motivated and strive to move up in my company.. Now if my work were to judge me by the way I look maybe they wouldn't want to give me the job but they know who I am and how I am... It's time this world ACTUALLY stops discriminating against the way one looks or what one does on personal time and starts judging by the way a person conveys themselves in a interview or work ethics.. You could hiring some dude with 30 piercings and 30 tattoos that is an excellent worker, takes the company to a new level and you wouldn't think it by the way he looks.. Then you could hire a guy who is modest, clean cut and not a earring or tattoo to his name that ends up sinking the company cause he doesn't know what he is doing or has terrible work ethics...
I understand in some professions you have a image you need to portray, this is wrong but it happens.. Say I start moving up the ladder even more at my work and my company asked me to close my stretched ears because it doesn't look good when your going into board meetings or meeting with other professional people like in the political sense.. I am going to do what it takes to get up, even if it is wrong to ask I will still do it because my career is more important.. This isn't due to what I do on my personal life, this is a image that people see when speaking to me.. So in this case I would get them closed up so I can move forward with my career...
It's all about having your head in the right place.... That's all it's about.. Failures of people can come from anyone... If you allow the drugs or alcohol to overtake you and define you as a person then you are a failure... The person probably would be just as much a failure without that stuff cause that is just who they are...orcen Thanks this.
