I started orientation today for Royal Trucking out of West Point, MS. We only had 3 of us in there. 1 guy and myself were flatbed and the other was van. Just did the normal orientation paperwork today and updated DOT physicals and watched some videos. Compliance guy also came in and talked with us. Tomorrow is more videos and paperwork then local work for a couple days to make sure I know what I'm doing. Also looking into qualifying to pull RGN and oversize loads. Pay started out for me at .41/mile and plus .10/mile for oversize loads i think. $40 tarp pay I think. Any questions just ask and I'll try to find out the answer.

Good for you, Glad it doesn't have 10-12 drivers coming in! Tell me they have a low turn over. Good Luck. Keep us informed!

Plans stayed pretty much the same for today. Watched 3-4 videos and talked with a lady from HR. Talked with safety guy a bit about eobr and some other procedures. Will go out with a local guy here for a few days to make sure I can drive and secure loads correctly I guess. Other 2 guys are out for 4-6 weeks. We'll see how the rest of the week plays out.

Just went out and rode with a local guy for 2 days then got my own truck today and helped him with some local loads. Supposed to leave out Monday or Tuesday. All good so far.

Talked to recruiting last week at Royal. Wondering how close the recruiting "talk" is to "reality"? Also, how does the equipment look? They told me it is mostly pretty new but all automatics.

They have nice equipment. I didnt know they were using EOBR's. They used to run your wheels off , illegal all the time. Times have changed, they probably had to change their ways too.

You'll have to be more specific with what you are looking for. I don't know what the recruiter told you so I really can't tell you if it's close to reality. The equipment is new 2011+ with maxcrap engines, auto transmissions and apu. If you're going flatbed make sure to bring your own hardhat, safety vest and safety glasses as they don't provide any of that like most companies do.
From the way it looks to me they changed when a certain person was hired in to help expand. I can say they are very strict about idle times since the trucks have apus. There was a guy getting a talk for his idle being too high when I was up there.

Also wanted to add they don't guarantee home time but from talking to a few drivers they seem to attempt to get you home on weekends. It's hit or miss whether you will get home since they don't guarantee it though. Just don't go in expecting to go home every weekend. If you do get home then that's a bonus.

Any updates? I am getting close to buying a house in Villa Rica, GA and I saw they have a small terminal there. I am looking into this company as it would be extremely convenient. Also, how has the home time gone so far? That's a big one for me as I have been with covenant transport and out for a month at a time. I don't have any flat bed experience but I will have a year of dry van OTR by the time I would be looking to move. Thanks.

Sorry for the late response but I guess better than never? I got a interview with AT&T for a local job shortly after I started and took it to be home with family. Royal seemed good overall to me. They hit my DAC with quit under dispatch when I picked up load and brought it and truck to the yard. It is what it is though. I've moved up with AT&T and am making more than I ever have as a company truck driver. Maybe when I retire me and the wife can get back at it if all the trucks aren't autonomous by then lol
