I start my new job as a "regional chemical tank driver" in the morning. I have about 16 years driving exp. 11 of those was pulling gas cans in OH KY IN mainly. I thought I'd start this thread and was hoping I'd have some seasoned drivers look at it from time to time and maybe give me some help along the way. I will be out of the Cincinnati Terminal operating East of the Mississippi River and runs to Houston and some Canada If I choose to go.

I had a request to do a review on the company I am going with, and I will in time. This thread I want to be for my own benefit and others getting into Chemicals. Thanks in advance for input!

Not "exactly" sure yet. But I know me, and I am for sure the kind that asks a lot of questions, good or bad that is just me.

Met with my trainer this morning. We pretty much just spotted trailers today. I didn't get to drive since my drug test results are not in yet. He showed me what to look for when picking up the trailers from the tank wash and how to inspect the clean out caps and unload valves. There was nothing that made me feel un easy about the job. I really think I'm going to like working for this company.

i only pulled chemical tanks for a year, but the most important thing i can think of is always make sure you bleed off the air pressure before disconnecting your hose or opening the dome lid.

There will be several things your trainer should teach you about chemical tanking (like never pull one on a public highway without a BOL or a wash ticket showing the trailer has been washed and cleaned or a LAST CONTAINED showing the last product that was on a dirty trailer that you are going to pull before it is washed or reload with a TOP LOAD). As you near the end of training tell us what you have been taught and hopefully we can fill in any blank spots that may exist.

Yesterday we ran an empty to a customer and shagged tail to get a loaded out to another customer that unloaded everything. We had to get a tire replaced on a trailer. I did get introduced to the paperwork. I think that may be the part that takes me the longest to get right. We got word from the safety department that I passed drug screening. That said, I should get some driving in today. We are starting at 04:00 this morning for an 07:30 appointment in Louisville, KY.

The trainer I have has a lot of experience and is VERY detailed oriented. I am very thankful I got him as a trainer.
