I found your thread in google while looking for information about swift training and cdl's in general. I had filled out an application with swift back in september, never followed through. Few weeks ago I ran into a good friend of mine who mentioned he just started with swift and is just not out on the road with his mentor. Got home, googled this up and found your thread.

Great GREAT read man, very informative. I've read through every page, every post of yours, and its been inspiring man. So now i'm re-reading it again as I'm caught up now to this page. Your a hell of a writer, very captivating, and following along your journey has filled in the blanks and questions about the whole process and lifestyle in general.

Just spoke with the recruiter today and got the complete application filled out. Looking to start a new chapter, the last 5 years i've let things go downhill, got my head stuck up my ###, now i'm beginning to pull it out and getting back the basic mechanics of life, and following along your journey man has been a big lift for me and helped me get the ball rolling where I was otherwise hesitant. So thank you sir for all the writing and information you've shared here.

Thanks Jmod, I appreciate the encouragement.
I hope you are out and doing this crazy trucking thing we do. Sounds like we have similar backgrounds and it's great to hear about someone turning their life around.

Where are you at with the trucking thing now? Last thing you wrote was that you were speaking with a recruiter...

Wow, it's been a long time since I've been on here. Not only this thread but on this forum or even on the computer. Although we had wifi in the motel we were living in (more on that later) I haven't really had the time to get online between work and my girl.

Things are awesome with Lauren. We're not only hanging in there but we're thriving despite the odds.

    To backtrack a little...

Early January I moved myself up to Jersey to relocate. Virginia wasn't really working out with that OTR Regional Dedicated position. Nothing like having a job but not having any work. Screw that.

I didn't have a place or the funds to acquire a new apartment up here in Jersey. I was offered the day cab job of delivering bread but had no where to stay. The problem with getting into an actual apartment was compounded by the fact that 1) My credit kind of stinks. Mostly since my divorce. 2) I have no recent rental history since starting to drive for Swift OTR. The last time I had a rental was way before I even started trucking. 3) I didn't have any local NJ paychecks behind me and the last paychecks I had from Epes were terrible and nearly $0. So I couldn't get a real apartment.

I found a weekly rental at a little roadside motel on the Route 35 circle in Manasquan, NJ. That was the best I could do. Not a bad place, not really any shady characters although the place had generated some interesting stories while we stayed there for the two months. Yes two adults in a small motel room for two months.

So finally we are out. We found an unbelievably great apartment in Eatontown, NJ. For those unfamiliar with the Garden State it is basically north, central NJ about an hour or less drive from NYC. So I'm finally in a real place for the first time in years and it feels great.

It feels "normal", whatever that may be. I still miss OTR at times for many reasons but I have to admit that I really love this new thing as well. I'm home every night, I make more money, I have someone to come home to and see every night and wake up next to every morning, I have a vehicle, an apartment and I have days off. Again, not always what is perfect for one person is perfect for another but this is working just fine for me right now.

    To be continued...

Steve tore the meniscus in his knee which got him out of his lease and home for a long long time. I LOVE it, but I'm driving him crazy. It's the next step-job waiting that has us not on the Swift board much. What really is there to say? We do have a new black beauty in the garage... a bum knee doesn't stop online shopping for new seats, ugly headlight protectors and the like, but he is looking forward to riding his new German Girlfriend. Miss you Doc...

What is this new black beauty in the garage??? I'm very curious. Good to hear he got some time off but under crappy circumstances.

K1600GT, he misses GS's still..... he'll get drunk enough one night and I'll get Property of BMW Tattoo'ed on his butt.
I don't know if he's put pictures of her on the ADV board.

Doc, you don't know how many times in my life that I upped and moved somewhere only to have the money for a week or two's worth in a little motel.
It provides some incentive to find a job quickly, not to mention it is exciting.

And 2 people in a motel room is still nicer than 2 in a sleeper.

    DocWatson Thanks this.

Doc, we miss you. The GT is gone and the new/old GS is back. After owning 5 GS's he didn't buy a 6th he re-bought an old bike he used to have in 2012 because serendipitously he found it for sale. So it's still 5 total owned, just one bought twice. (at least it wasn't Bone Crusher) Steve does orientation at the new job tomorrow. Fingers crossed he makes a ton of money, stays safe, I see him every weekend and sometimes in between, and that LA doesn't drive him bonkers.
