I was recently discharged from my job for a minor seatbelt violation and I just can't believe it...
I helped build this 1 truck company into the 10 truck, small but very profitable operation it is today. This was a small mom and pop company before I signed on. The owner and his wife decided they were going to take some time off and wanted to hire someone to drive their truck for them. They said they wanted their first company driver to be the best of the best, so naturally they chose me.
I worked for this company for quite a while and I was such a good driver they decided to reinvest some of the money I and buy a second, and then a 3rd truck. I was such a good driver they finally just started staying at home and dispatching all the trucks I had put on the road for them up to the 10 truck operation it is today.
Then a couple of weeks ago I was driving thru effingham il. I was in a hurry to meet up with one of my girlfriends in the Chicago area. She wanted to come play clay me up from the truck stop and have me spend the night at her place.
I had been driving for a little over 8 hours so I decided to whip it off the road real quick, pull it into the pilot, drain the lizard, take a quick dump, and log my 30 min break at 7:45 drive time.
I got back on the road and forgot to put my seatbelt back on. An Illinois state trooper saw me and pulled me over. I wanted to kick his ### but I figured it was only for the seatbelt... No big deal and just shut up and took the ticket.
When I got back to the yard I told the owner what had happened. He said he had to let me go. I was a risk to the company. After all the work I had done for him. I just can't believe it
Me??!!....Fired??!!!!

In this day and age how does one "forget" to wear a seatbelt? With that said, if that is your only infraction with the company then it is hard to believe they let you go. But as a company grows they do have to be more careful. I don't remember how many CSA points a seatbelt is but I recall it being rather a lot.
Sorry you lost your job.Milkman719, Moon_beam, MachoCyclone and 4 others Thank this. -
Yep, Company I was leased to had a deal. Seatbelt and handheld phone ticket was automatic firing...
Dominick253 Thanks this. -
Starts at 7 points times 3. 21 points for the driver right now.
Don't ask me how I know...MachoCyclone, Rugerfan, Dominick253 and 2 others Thank this. -
between your name and professing how great of a driver you are, well I can see how you were fired. But how ashamed they must be for doing such a thing.

Seatbelt is a big deal now. I remember in the late 90's early 2000's getting pulled over in the buckeye for speeding and the state trooper gave me a seatbelt ticket instead, wasn't a big deal then
reefer75 Thanks this. -
oh mods come on we wanted to play with the troll a bit more. But to everyone else so many safety guys will wait and watch you pulling into a yard to make sure you seat belt is on. If not you are done.

According to the CSA rules, no seatbelt ranks way up there in terms of severity
As shown on this table
http://www.csa2010.com/articles/CSA_2010_Unsafe_Driving_Violation_Severity_Chart.htm
But if had to guess, I'd say there may be some other dynamic at play here and this was the excuse they were waiting on.Hegemeister, drvrtech77, REO6205 and 3 others Thank this. -
several company safety guys will run you off for it, that was what I was talking about.
