Hi all,
I've had my trucks now for 4 or 5 years. I thought I had until next month but my insurance expired this month. I need to get insurance back on it ASAP. I can't afford downtime. The insurance agent I used to go to told me to find someone else to go through. I think it's because I dropped crop and car insurance with them. Regardless, I need insurance. I tried all sorts of web searches for Commercial insurance. I found websites that had insurance for like a business, not a truck. I knew it was a long shot but I also looked up truck insurance which meant pickup insurance. The only online site I was able to find that would give me a quote was Geico. They said that I'd get an email with a quote, or I could call a number to get it faster. Called the number and said they don't do commercial, but call back the next morning and they would transfer me to a company that does. Called the next morning and they told me that they couldn't insure me because I'm a private carrier/farm plated. What a crock! I got ahold of they guy here in town for a quote. While I was waiting for him to respond I tried other insurance companies from surrounding areas. They could give me a quote on my house or personal vehicles, but not a truck. So the guy locally finally got back with me. He said that his supervisor said that I'd be better off going through the same place I get the rest of my insurance. I don't have any insurance right now other than health, and told him I was looking to switch everything over. This is already more than a week later after I first got ahold of the guy locally. He did get me a quote asked for bank and routing etc. I sent him texts the last couple days, no reply. So I went to his office and he wasn't there. I wanted to leave a check with his business partner, He said not to leave a check and he would get ahold of me later. He told me that I would need a credit or debit card, but only for the first bill. I do not have a credit or debit card. I asked if I could go to the bank and get cash. He said no again.
Sorry for making this so long, but I was just wondering if any of you know an insurance company that can take a check over the phone. It would take too long to get a debit card. That and also I need an insurance company that will let me make payments. I can't afford the whole year in one go. I called a few o/o's here locally and every one of them went through the company I went through. The only suggestion I got was to go through a company in Columbus.
Thanks in advance,
Mike

Progressive, Mercury, Farmers (as long as you own the trailer)
bottomhoppercrew Thanks this. -
Progressive is the company that the guy locally was going to sell me a policy. No debit/credit. I did actually talk to a Farmers agent in Fremont. I do own the trailer, but they told me they couldn't do commercial. Dunno maybe it's their office that doesn't sell it? Never heard of Mercury, but I will try them.

Kay Mclaren at Town and country in Norfolk is who I use. Idk about farm plates myself, but I'm sure shes dealt with em before. Theirs a bunch of grain haulers around here.bottomhoppercrew Thanks this. -
Give Goods Insurance Agency a call. They sell Daily Underwriters policies and I find them to be very reasonable for "for hire" coverage. You will speak with a real insurance agent that knows what they're talking about, not a teleprompter robot like when you call the big guys.

I used Thomas Wilson Group. They have really good rates and were easy to get coverage. No lump sums or policy contracts. You pay month to month. check their site because they don't offer their service in all states. I am a new O/O and got a better deal on bobtail and physical damage than through the carrier.

I use State Farm for my farm truck and trailer. They were the half of the price of Farmers but that was 2012. And I payed by check to get started and monthly payments.. I also use Crawford Phillips for cargo..
