Trans Am Still

If you drive for TransAm, would you mind signing up/logging in and telling us what is so hard about stopping at an open scale house, please?

That PrePass only has 3 lights and only one means to pass the scale when it's open.

 

Yeah, I agree, I felt like I should have been paid for at least two days. I think it depends on your DM, I had a very good DM (at first) she was very good at following up on many issues and kept me rolling more than some other DMs. However, she had an allergy to submitting drivers for extra pay.

I always had an issue getting "extra" pay when doing TransAm company business, that and unfair swap arrangements are the two key reasons I left TA.

I would say they where always good about paying for hotels on breakdown. My advice to new drivers, if you are out on the road and your truck needs work, it fits the work needed and your schedule, put in for a hotel reimbursement right away. That is one nice perk I will give TA credit for.

 

I get to take on Cabbage Pass today. This year I will have taken every major pass on an interstate in the West. It's been a while since I've done that. If things go right I should be able to get a restart in.

 

I have a question. Why is it illegal to hold a cell phone to your mouth and talk while driving? Why is it legal to hold a CB mike to your mouth and talk while driving?

Yep, I got a truck right out of orientation in Rockwall. But, when it broke down for extended periods, I gotta free plane ride or bus ride to recover a truck. Did 5 recoveries in my time with TA. Just got paid for loaded and empty miles after I made the recoveries (under a load) but not for the recovery itself. I considered it part of the apprenticeship.

 

At that point you were no longer a trainee and considered a solo driver .....the rules change. Personally, I have always felt that all of you should get paid anytime that you are conducting company business.
I also think that passport is correct.....your pay is very dependent on having a good DM and a good relationship with that DM. Take care to cultivate that relationship and it will pay off for you.

There are some states that have tried to apply the same laws and regulations to CB radios as they have to cell phones. I think Illinois was one of them a couple of years ago.
