Only difference between 5ek and 6nz are gasket uptates on 6nz to prevent premature leaking and some computer tweeks

Thanks, so you think I'll be ok going with the 5EK since I'm getting a year unlimited mile warranty.. with the 6NZ I'm only getting a 2 years?

Thanks, so you think I'll be ok going with the 5EK since I'm getting a 4 year unlimited mile warranty.. with the 6NZ I'm only getting a 2 years? And the 5EK is almost 7k cheaper

Either motor is in the best years of electronic cats. I would take either over a Detroit or cummins any day

Thompson CAT is 4 years unlimited miles on all CAT motors they put in gliders. Sounds like someone is short changing on warranty. A few years ago I got 3 years unlimited miles on an MBN single turbo C15 with a platinum inframe and upgraded to 4 years for a few hundred extra. That is pretty typical regardless of the CAT house.

I may be wrong, but I think the block on a 6nz was built a bit heavier due to the early blocks breaking when the crankshaft snaps. Also the 5ek is a 14.6 liter engine, while the 6nz is a 15.2 liter. Electronics are different. And the Jake brake on the 6nz is much stronger

    Pinny Spira Thanks this.

nope same displacement. both are 14.6 the 6nz is a sculptured block and a tad lighter. 5ek is a 40 pin ecm electronics. 6nz is a 70 pin ecm electronics. 6nz has better gasket structure's. the 5ek's have the old style paper gaskets, more likely to leak sooner. your 15.2 cats are in the a-cert group.
