I worked for Super Service out of Somerset Kentucky back in 2005 and it was pretty typical for that company at the time to make drivers sit in Dallas Texas for a week waiting for a load. If it turns out to be a regular thing I definitely be looking for another company to work for.
Too much time on load

Your "trainer"/mentor needs to get off his butt and refuse the work some times to keep the truck moving.

Not an option unless you are near a terminal. And then this time of year, you usually get to sit in a long line of drivers waiting for a load. Just the slow time of year for megas, like Swift.
Just say if the t-call happens, even the best planners plans do not work like they should.
And no I do not make stuff up. Some people just have a hard time understanding this business. -
Not that slow. I'm still getting tight loads. You might have a bad mentor. Or your mentor has crap planners, or a crap DM.
I'm on the Refrigerated side of things, and I'm still getting loads that have very little time to spare. But I have both proven I can do it, and have very good office folks above me (DM and Planners.) -
So explain my 15,300 miles over the last 5 weeks. In almost 6 years here, I've never had a problem t calling a load with too much time.
Problem, is newbies don't try to figure things out or take any initiative. They expect loads to fall out of sky and when they don't, they get po'd and leave.Last edited: Mar 21, 2016
FerrissWheel Thanks this. -
Hell yeah you want to t call that load so you can hopefully get another load and keep rolling. I wouldn't leave unless you two aren't seeing eye to eye though. Just cause he is t-calling it is to move onto another load which trainers will always be in the pool for another load. Once you upgrade you better see first from your DL if they have anything else or you just might be sol without another load. Freight is slow industry wide my friend so expect some loads like that.Thull Thanks this.
