last week dropped 2009 volvo 780 truck off at volvo dealer for loss of fuel pressure; 994490 miles... they replaced 6 cups and 6 injectors, adjusted the valves, all was working fine... good pressure, no leaks, good compression in cylinders... they did tell me valves were way off and may need low end work soon.

next day i had oil changed at speedco... no issues...

next day i left house at 4am headed 20 miles down road and engine started making noise... shut down truck and had it towed to sister volvo company, different location.
i'm told the #6 cylinder had valve drop caused damage to #6 liner and piston, chunk went into turbo, water in oil into EGR...

I now need complete inframe overhaul, turbo, EGR cooler, and clean DPF system... they tell me 19k in parts, 11k labor, 1k misc... I told them to keep the truck... ;(

    any advise welcome...
    thanks

Find a backyard mechanic that works on Volvos and see if he can get those prices down... 100 hours of labor?? Is the mechanic retarded?? Stay away from Nextran!!!!!

    Way too much.

Time to look around and talk to dealer that did overhead.....Sounds to me that the mechanic screwed up the valve adjust!!

Lawyer up for the hell of it, valve adjustment done wrong. Maybe they settle out and you get a little 3 or 4 k. And find someone one else to do the rebuild.

I have no idea if it would work, but it might be worth a shot.

The truck is not worth that type of repair funds being spent on it I would take salvage money for it and put a down payment on a much newer truck. Hopefully it paid for and you don't owe anything on it.

My 08 780 rebuild was in that same ballpark soooooooo yeah bite the bullet if you can. Get a warrenty and rebuilt motor. BUT. For our other 780(twin) of mine we picked up a low milage 200ish k. d13 in new mexico for around 12k did the labor ourself (helps to have forklift) solid truck now.
