Someone with 50k in savings and driving a LP truck??...So this "friend" of yours has a good credit rating and has enough solvency to mass 50 thousand dollars in an account someplace yet he or she drives a truck they don't own, and decisions about the truck are made by Transport America ? Then there's this wonder shop who can replace a brand new engine in 4 days for 50 THOUSAND dollars? Now all of a sudden carburetors are magically used on your friend's priceless show engine? ...Geesh..at least write something believable. ....LOL
Wait...let me guess...your friend has less than 5 years total driving experience (probably less than 1) yet they have 50 grand in the bank and know that 50k will stop the knocking from the engine if a Nascar fast shop can replace their engine in 4 days?
Please help me understand because I've obviously missed a lot of information during my last three decades.MachoCyclone Thanks this. -
I recovered truck a year ago from a shop that had a new motor put in. It was at that shop for 6 weeks before it was done.
Never knew a diesel motor had a carburetor.
No need to lie about the reason you didn't go with Transport America. Just man (or woman) up and admit that they denied you and you got stuck going to a known #### company for #### pay. -
I don't know all the ins and outs just what was told to me. I was being sarcastic about the carbs. Mainly because I have never heard of them being on a semi in the first place. He told me that because the truck was "paid in full" they still have the control over when and where maintenance is done. his 50k that he dropped on the new engine was inheritance from our grandparents passing away. every person in the family got 50k from the inheritance. He is a close friend and cousin. the remainder I don't fully understand as I never personally hear of any shop putting engines in trucks that aren't dealerships. I'm still waiting for the rest of the information on this situation. He was only doing the lease purchase because he had too. he put down 2500 for his down payment even though it wasn't required and he knew they would report to the credit agencies on him making payments. TA is not the first company I have heard of requiring some BS high dollar fix on a truck that someone is trying to get the title too after making the final "buyout payment" I have heard horror stories of other major carriers doing this saying we cant accept the final payment until this truck receives a new clutch, engine, transmission etc. is this the truth I don't know. I just listen and learn. He also has 8 years experience with various civilian companies and more than 10 years between the navy and the army.

not a lie. and other way around T.A. offered me a job but wont give me what I want/need. I want good pay and to be able to teach other people about the truck driving. or as much as I know. I want to train and earn a decent living either as lease or trainer or both. T.A. said that I would have to work there for at least 90 days again before I could be considered for their program. and only willing to give me .36CPM during this time and .38CPM as a trainer. I have chosen CRST because they are offering me .42CPM solo and .50CPM as a trainer and I get my first student immediately after I get my truck situated out of orientation.

Sorry friend, more than likely your driver buddy doesn't own anything. When you have this piece of paper (see above) in your possession, with YOUR name on it,,then you OWN your truck. Believe me, no one makes maintenance decisions about my truck but me. -
After you have been around the industry a little longer you will probably encounter plenty of shops who not only "install"--but overhaul, repair and recondition engines in many different types of equipment like gas, propane, diesel powered forklifts, mining equipment, construction equipment, stationary power plants, generators, farming equipment...the list goes on.
Cummins is a manufacturer of engines, they also operate several shops around the country who install the engines they produce, so they are are both maintainers AND producers of several makes and models of engines used in several different business platforms. There are cummins engines aboard cruise ships.
Takes time to see things, you'll get there, one day at a time. Be safe.Jonkie Thanks this. -
