Plenty of chatter about auto-drive trucks here in the forum. Not to worry. With a CDL in good standing, you'll always have work in your generation. At worst it may only serve to keep wages suppressed as drivers are only required to manage the first and last miles and fuelings.

Robots are coming, but you have to change the whole system, not just the trucks. So good for at least another 10-20 years.

Besides, they can't even make the radio work currently. Fat chance this thing is finding it's way to a dock by itself..

Try 20-30 years first you have to make it affordable for the shipper and the trucking company also what insurance is gonna cover this if a truck inadvertently exploded then you got unions that line the pockets of law makers they want there guys to keep their jobs... You will see weed legalized in all 50 states before you see robots driving trucks on a full nationwide scale hell they can't even shoot a nuke out of the sky with a reliable missle defense system yet

...and they will run into a different set of problems.

Broker/Hackers and thieves will be able to track ALL automated shipments. The high end freight will need something in place that will open a can of whoop a a s s and be able to drive any rig the old fashion way. Oh yeah, it will definitely pay. Especially when they get all the losers out of the industry.

They can't even make the emissions systems reliable yet, can't imagine how bad the problems will be with self driving trucks! I don't think you have anything to worry about.

Don't worry, you'll always have a job making good money if you keep your driving record clean and take minimal care of your health to pass the dot physical.

If you're single, just live in the truck and use your parents or another relatives address and you can save a lot of money fast.

You should already be submitting job applications. Don't wait until graduation.
Which trucking companies is the school pushing? There's probably a dozen to choose from plus what the school pushes.

There's so many factors to these auto drive vehicles. Most states can't even keep up with upkeep on current road systems, how are they going to impliment more safe roadways designed specifically for auto drive vehicles.

I'd say much longer than 20 years, providing we don't go to war in the meantime, no home economic crises or terror issues, and no more major budget situations. In today's day, good luck with that.
