Outfits are having problems finding drivers right now because alot of the baby-boomer generation is retiring and there's not many to replace them. Younger guys and gals would rather go to college and don't see trucking or really any blue-collar job as a good career choice. Can't really blame them what with the way this industry has gone downhill and the loss of so many good-paying blue-collar jobs to Mexico and China.
But the flip-side of the coin is that you don't have wait as long to move up in seniority as you would in the past. A friend of mine hired onto ABF about a year ago and he already has a start-time and a route, because about 6 high-seniority drivers retired which shot him up the totem pole like a rocket. That would have been unheard of when I started out. Back then, it was wait by the phone or work the dock for at least 2-3 years...and winter time you'd better have some $$$ salted away.
Ready to jump!

Well, actually I believe it stands for "Latter Day Saints." There is an interesting book written by Jon Krakauer, titled "Under The Banner of Heaven" and subtitled "A Story of Violent Faith." I'm taking no sides for or against this book, but it is interesting reading. Non Fiction.speedyk Thanks this.
