So I got a guy close to me with a mbn cat that has about 760k on it and has a spun #5 bearing. He wants to dump it cheap would this be worth pursuing? It doesn't have a ecm so could I put a 70pin 6nz or similar ecm on this motor? I would rebuild the motor so I know it's fresh for me. Looking for input on this. Would it be worth doing the acert crank and piston kit mentioned in this post? Appreciate the input.

If you don't let me know, I will!! When you say #5 bearing, rod bearing? If so block isn't hurt at all.

Yeah tm, what rob said. Deck block line bore mains. And if needed sleeve lower liner bore if pitted. I also magna Flux straighten and polish the crank. I don't know what your doing for a head. I know where you can get a brand new one for $3000 no core. And if you want to spend an extra grand there is a boy up here by me that installs a retainer ring for each cylinder that will cure the blown headgasket issue with these e gines.

I don't have the add in front of me but I think he said main bearing. So I'd assume it's on the crank near the #5 hole. I'm waiting for a call back to confirm. Otherwise would it be worth me buying.

Still repairable for the right price.

The price is defiantly right. It's a pretty complete motor as it sits. Should it be worth doing the acert crank and 7172 cylinder packs on the motor I'm looking at buying?

70 pin vs 40 pin....if not a dyno queen the 40 pins seem more responsive on the street and seem better on fuel...and they are just plain simple...if building dyno queen then I'd say 70 pin files out there have more fuel in them...as far as blocks....I've had a 5ek block crack at stock 550 level along oil gallery on passenger side...but I've also had them live a lot higher.... If building street engine either probably fine ......

For me I'm just looking to build a good all around motor. Something around 600 hp and a motor that will hold its own on the hills and be reliable. So a 40pin exam would be ok?

From what I learned on here, the former Cat Guru on here and a few others that had left, was said that the 5EK block had a weak spot and about 750 to 800 hp was there limits before catastrophic failure would appear. A spacer plate from a oil pan B model would help a little from making the block tweak. That being said.....I have the early 5EK block and had dropped a 5DS 601 HP file in it with 58's, it was fun driving, a truck in steroids. I knew I had to be putting down close to 750. Anyways, I back in down cause I knew the block probably wouldn't hold to long and I found a comfortable set up that is pleasant to drive and meet CARB standards.
