Hi all,
My name's Cameron and I'm working on a school project that involves micro/subcultures. I chose trucker's as that because I grew up riding along with dad on Saturdays. I'll be asking several types of questions. Before I ask any though, I want to see how many of you are willing to help me out, and if there is any information that you can think of that could help me out before I start asking questions.
Thank you
I'm working on a school project and I need your help. Willing?

Might get a better response if you were to ask.
This is your project after all..Dominick253 Thanks this. -
What are some "norms" that are typically followed by truckers?
Do these norms vary based on the type of trucking being done? Such as flatbed or hazmat(?)
What is some lingo that is typically known primarily to truckers?
Are there things that mark someone as a trucker?
If there are, do these things make it easy for a fellow trucker to pick them out of crowd? -
Not trying to be sarcastic, but since you say grew up with riding on Saturdays with your dad, you should already have first hand information. Also , there has many several threads in here that has had several individuals like yourself ask the same thing. There is a search box you can use to find what your asking. Good luck in your research.
d o g and Cameron Weaver Thank this. -
in one hand I've been told by many that work in other trades I don't look like a trucker, yet some truckers think I do flat bed, what's a trucker suppose look like?

Ya dood, all your info is in here...the searchbox is your friend

There isn't a stereotypical driver anymore... Modern regulations are pushing some of the ultra obese out of the field, and the industry gained an influx of drivers from varied fields during the recession. Drivers just wear comfortable clothing from their own culture, ranging from ultra casual to suit&tie. There really isn't a "norm" either, just regional trends if anything. As for lingo, just Wikipedia trucker slang-not much has changed since the 70's. You can't pick a driver out of a crowd, we come from all backgrounds and cultures. I Know drivers with Master's degrees that just burned out on the 9-5 lifestyle and wanted to "see the country", and I know drivers that didn't make it past the 9th grade.

A lot of women I meet are surprised I'm a trucker. I get the, "you aren't old and fat though" comment a lot.
Hell even other drivers don't think I'm a driver sometimes, somebody tell me what I need to do to fit in lolKillingTime Thanks this. -

All this time I thought people thought I was an old hand because of the way I dress and carry myself, now I find out its because I'm old and fat. #### it.
