Keep the shiny side UP!Charlie Mac Thanks this. -
Don't let the first day intimidate you. They all get a lot friendlier later on haha. Just too much bullcrap going on for them to even worry about you that first day.

So true.
And they need to weed out so many during that first day or two.
Otherwise they would have a 300% turnover rate. -
Gotta narrow the field by weeding out those real bad apples first.Jonkie Thanks this. -
Well, even Swift doesn't want to hire really dangerous people.
The CSA score would suffer too much.
They seem to be happy with about 15 percent or so before finally getting rid of them -
I can see why. A lot of the prospective applicants were just chatting & class clowns...I just kept my head down. 30 applicants were PAM students, 10 were Swift. By the end of the 1st day alone we are down to 29 remaining. There was a quiz on combination vehicles, only 20 questions. There were 4 students that already had CDP's...they were exempt. 2 had CDL's, exempt also. Needed 80% to pass. The instructor passed back the results & winked at me saying, "Nice going big dog."Apparently I was the only one that got 100%.
This one chick who was running her yap non-stop (of course) announced publicly she missed 6/20 & was like "You gotta get 5 to pass I missed 6! Ain't that some Bull ####". I was thinking (to myself) "20% is 4 you idiot."dngrous_dime, Jonrulerofearth, CasanovaCruiser and 1 other person Thank this. -
Be ready for a lot more of that "humor"
Half the people in my class didn't know OTR meant you weren't home for dinnerCharlie Mac Thanks this. -
On a side note...the instructor seems like a really solid guy! Keeps the momentum going without being a wet blanket. Serious when essential, but not so serious that he comes off arrogant. I can only hope I end up with a trainer with a similar mentality.
