Hi dancecanyon, many times, depending on the product, tankers run one way loaded and come back empty, only because cleaning it for a different product is just not feasible. You're not going to load gas in a milk tanker, for example. Aside from certain chemicals, tankers are usually a local deal. Milk, gas, crap, all are local stuff, and quite often, many loads per day.( or night) You don't see a lot of OTR "tube freight".dancecanyon Thanks this.

This is almost exactly what I do. I pick up in Champaign, IL and either run to Pekin, IL, or Reynolds, IN loaded. Unload, come back to Champaign, drop the trailer and let them load it with solids for the next day, or load it with liquid for the next day. Vicious circle....LOL

The company I used to work for was shipping a lot of bulk product from WY to PA, It didn't take them long to decide to build a plant in OH. If you do ever find tanker work that is going long distance I wouldn't expect it to last long.

The shipper in Ashtabula, OH was SCM on Middle Ridge Road. There used to be a lot of good loads out of that plant, but a lot of it went on tight fill trailers and it was very difficult to get the trailer clean enough to reload.Cat sdp Thanks this.

Sounds good. Who pulls the tote van freight? Private fleet owned by them or a trucking company? Beware of bean counters if someone like Schnieder is pulling the van freight. Also what about the raw materials side? Who brings you the materials to make your product and is it possible to back haul something they need utilizing your equipment better.

Thanks Wysrob,
The totes are shipped through a broker....It usually looks like the same O/O guy that picks those loads up.
They do have a box truck that does deliver smaller orders of the totes.
The main raw material comes from over seas...Through the port in Savannah.
I'm not sure how they truck the raw stuff up from the port....I have not been there to see it come in.
Off to St.Louis today....Leave early afternoon and will be back Friday around lunch...wsyrob Thanks this. -
Have a great trip!

There is plenty of long distance tanker freight. Schneider gives hires a choice between local, regional, and OTR. I chose OTR and my first load was from Georgia to Maine. I'm based in Georgia and have been to west Texas, Canada, the Dakotas, etc...Only places I haven't been yet are Rockies westward.dancecanyon and MidWest_MacDaddy Thank this.

Give hauling fuel a try once you're comfortable with the tanker. It's a great job, I have no regrets.
