"of course your tarps will be like trying to fold a piece of plywood, and when you roll them up they'll be about the size of an 11R24.5 tire" That was too funny!! LOL

Something good, very good, happened to me today.
I was on a delivery of refrigerated goods to a Winn-Dixie DC and the whole things was taking a very, very long time. 6 hours, to be exact. Of course, there is a direct relationship between lengthy detention and my frustration, so the day wasn't turning out well. Then came the bad news.
In the form of a lengthy list of damaged goods and 16 cases of missing product. All of which had been loaded and packed by our terminal employees in Georgia. Oops.
I finally got my bills and pulled away from the dock. There was, indeed, a lot of yogurt and cottage cheese in the back, though "damaged" seems to be a term very loosely defined by Winn-Dixie. Anyway, I pondered what to do with the stuff after making the required calls to our OS&D unit in DePere.
Pitch it, she said. Seriously? Yes, she said.
Well, being one who hates idling because it wastes fuel, you can imagine how I felt about throwing pretty much perfectly good yogurt and cottage cheese into a dumpster.
Not without a battle!
And the battle began with a call to my youngest danger who started a "tiny homes for the homeless" project in Lake Charles, LA, to get her input. Well, she knew a guy who knew a guy who knew a guy and before I knew it, one of my daughters-in-law called with the name and phone number for the local Winter Haven Salvation Army facility who was ecstatic hearing about what was available.
The rest of the story is I have an empty reefer and they have a much more full refrigerator - they even took the rejected peeled, hard boiled eggs from another WEL driver.
Everyone is happy because not one item went into the local dumpster. Some days end up being just good days, no matter how they start.Last edited: Apr 8, 2016
