I have been reading post's on the net where drivers are claiming they make money delivering trailers. some say they have done it 10 years or more and make money at it. I find that very hard to believe!! I have come to the belief that these guys are actually working for the industry and trying to keep new recruits coming so they can keep the game going. I have nothing to gain or lose in telling the truth. I have been in business all my life and turned toward delivering trailers to get the stress out of my life while supporting myself. Unfortunately, I have to report that it is NOT the dream job they lied to me about. It does NOT pay enough at a little over 1$ a mile ONE WAY! You get NO haul backs despite what they tell you. So that works out to about .55 cents a mile. Do the math for yourself... You cannot afford to stay in even a fleabag hotel. You have to eat out and that cost money even if its crappy cheap fast food. the companies who "contract" with you cheat you with low pay and FEES. they keep you in the dark and think you are stupid enough to believe what they are telling you. Someone said you have to live like a rat in your truck, well you don't as long as you don't want to make any money. You also get charged for anything that may go wrong on the road, your fault or not! it becomes stressful when you realize that you have put over 100K on your nice truck that's now not worth anything because of the high mileage. You cannot afford to replace your truck and wind up in debt in the end. You risk your life with the black ice, winds, snow, and wild animals. And you get treated like crap from the dealers and dispatchers who think your just another chicken!! NO MORE FOR ME!!

You really have to know how to play this game.

    Back hauls are available, sometimes.

Basically a good job for retired folks, to supplement their income.

If you're only getting $1.10 per loaded mile then your getting hosed. The average rate for non CDL loads right now is $1.20.

Anyone that wants to make money delivering RVs has to treat it like a job, not a paid vacation or a supplement to retirement. How many Big rig drivers stay in a hotel every night and eat every meal in a restaurant? They sleep in their trucks most of the time. Most meals are cooked in the truck, made from food they bought at the grocery store. Delivering freight with a truck isn't for everybody.

Keep preaching about how there's no money in RV delivery though. The less drivers there are, the more rates go up.

Those rates have stunk for the last 15+ years.

Used to make decent money with Morgan, about 20+ years ago........

It sounds to me like somebody who screwed up and got fired and he comes here on his first post and complains about it if you don't want to do the work don't do the work go somewhere else and cry we get tired of pigeons.

We been all over this before. No one, at the end of the day can convince anyone that, as a full time trucking job recreational vehicle delivery is a good decision. You may come across a few who make a fair living at it, but at the end of the day too much overhead and no future in RV delivery holds it back as a good career choice. As a sessional, part time job for retirees and part time workers - it’s great.

I have been doing drive-away for the past 2 months and I am all ready to end my tenure in about 3-6 weeks, (mid June).

Your statement is that of a typical amateur driver that thinks they know everything and prove it on the road every day
Last one in why do you even bother coming on here you are a negative person a fair-weather driver that thinks he's an expert on the RV industry it's people like you that hurt the drivers who choose to do this work

Your post tells me you're a long way from being a trucker if that's the way you think about somebody trying to make a living on the road that's one of the problems today drivers you will never make a hand
