I'm on tract to start with Greenville Tech's TDT program in May. The lady I spoke with in Financial Aid said that students in the TDT program are not eligible for student loans. She said it with a fair amount of conviction, which made me think she knew what she was talking about. The head of the TDT program said he is certain that previous students in the TDT program have received Stafford loans.
Does anyone have any recent experience with this?
Thanks in advance.

I believe the Stafford loan program is limited to people going to college who are working towards their first bachelors degree
It might be worth while for you to go to a bank that handles these loans and see if you would qualify. Who knows, they might say yes

BiloxiJim Thanks this. -
You can't pull title 1 aid for a non degree seeking program, that's the reason ITT is under investigation these days. Your state can issue a grant through your workforce office though. 90% of the students coming through the driving programs local to me are state funded. Driving is a high need field, so the money is out there for grants.

What are they charging you for training btw?

Lottery assistance is available for this program also. It pays somewhere around 50% of the tuition. I'm fairly sure you have to be obtaining a bachelors for the Stafford loan, as I had one years ago.

I went through the Sage Program at Indian River State College in Ft. Pierce, Florida.
I don't know about the Stafford Loan Program but I applied for a School Loan through Sallie Mae... Didn't make a payment until six months after I completed the course.
As mentioned above, the Stafford Loan might be geared towards only a degree program. I had a couple back when I went for my BS.BiloxiJim Thanks this. -
Thanks for everyone's responses - I think all of you have a good understanding of the applicable rules.
Went through the registration process last week. We were instructed to check a box on a form that stated something to the effect "I understand that this program is not eligible for Title IV financial aid" - something like that, but it was explained as all financial aid, Pell Grants, loans, etc. I was eligible, as a SC resident, for the lottery offset, which was $1,200 (up slightly from last year) and that reduced my tuition down to $1,482. So, if you're not a South Carolina resident, you would not be eligible for the lottery $, and tuition would be around $2,700.
What an amazing deal. If Gvl Tech had room for more students, those $6k places would be in trouble.
Looking forward to seeing the rest of the countyMidWest_MacDaddy Thanks this. -
