BigRoad cab card?

Ya, sounds like the App falls between Paper and the ELD options... Basically an electronic version of Paper Logs and not a complete ELD.

I agree with the post above, the drivers should then carry either the Instruction Card (just as CYA) or a form letter explaining that their App doesn't meet the normal criteria of an ELD.

And yes, been stopped twice and both times the officer asked for my QC Card... Didn't "do" anything with it... Just verifying that I had it.

And both times the LEO was nice enough to let me go with out issuing me a ticket...

Note: the first time was for going 67 in a 65... Ya, right... 2 miles over... Just an excuse to be a bit nosey... The second time I wasn't speeding at all ... So after a quick roadside inspection, he wished me well and off I went.

 

If the rule does not apply then you do not need instructions. The APP is not an automatic device like an ELD that is connected to the truck.

Again, contact your company and the company that makes the App to clarify what the App actually is in regards to the FMCSA regulations.

If the DOT rep thought it was an ELD, then yes they would be correct. But this is a gray area and it is a log app not an ELD.

For the Keeptruckin app. if you go to the support page, in the search box type in "cab card" it will take you to the information and download page. download the correct one and print the PDF file. Good idea to keep the file saved on your device as well.

 

But, the main point is, is the App a Automatic Recording device per the regs or is it just another way to record manually your logs??

I still suggest you get with your company safety so they may address the issue to the Local DOT and get a verification on this... This if it does not fall under DOT regs, your company should have a letter stating such in your truck cab book.

 

If you use a logging program you are not required to copy them over onto paper logs, thus, dual log books. Only that you can produce the last 7 days plus current.

You can keep a copy for your records.

I would still suggest contact your local FMCSA office for clarification. If the LEO is in error, then you will still get wrong information.

Your safety department should be handling this as you stated company wide all the drivers use this APP and not the automatic recording device.
