Same here on a 06 c13.
Had the top oil pressure sensor replaced from peterbilt but no avail.
Discussed the problem with CAT. No 'cold engine protection '. Sometimes the CEL comes on but doesn't leave any trace. That's why Pete tried the oil pressure sensor.
Once the CEL is on, it's very difficult to get her back running. Seems like the coolant temp has to get the thermostat open and the Pyro temp has to be at a min of 750F. It's difficult to get both with reduced power. Occurs only when engine starts in cold mode and the rpms are a bit higher than usual after firing up.
I'm dealing with this since I have the truck. It's annoying like the OP mentioned.

So a co-worker took it to the shop and took the mechanic for a ride while plugged in to his laptop. He said that there does not appear to be any issues.
This morning I was having a hard time getting going with so little boost and on a whim I turned the truck off at a stop light and restarted it...problem gone!
I don't know that that will narrow down issue at all but at least I have a temporary way to cope with it!Last edited: Apr 7, 2016

Yes shutting down and restart does solve the problem as long as it reached abut 150f already.

I'm wondering if maybe the thermostat is stuck open as it takes quite a while to get up to temperature
-
Nope won't help.
I got the engine rebuilt with the platinum kit (thermostat included), put both turbos on. The small one comes even with the actuator and there was no change.
I think it's more on the sensor side, but where?
All the gauges work the way they should.
I have the air filter under the hood and air is supplied through screens and air ducts in the hood and is sealed with a rubber ring between hood and air filter housing. In the winter, I remove that ring and it gets the warmer air from under the hood. That seems to make things a bit easier but the issue still exists. -
I had the thermostat failed after the platinum rebuild and there was no change.
So to speak, I am on my 3rd thermostat since I have the issue and it's still there.
Do not misunderstand, the rebuild and the turbos were not intended to fix this issue. I hoped it would come as a side effect but no it didn't. -
Thank you for letting me know. I won't invest in a thermostat. Yesterday I unplugged all of the harnesses on the motor and cleaned them (several had oil in them), also no help.
This is irritating. -
It's just an iva code. Sometimes check engine will light up, sometimes it won't. Either way it will derate for awhile. Warm up the engine a little longer and it usually won't do it.

Mine is running at 311degrees. Is that ok.

When I fire up mine in the morning it smokes a thick white smoke. It only does it if I bump the rpm up, if I let it sit at adle then it won't. ... I fire it up and it runs fine for a minute and then starts to smoke, after it warms up it'll stop. I also do not ever get over 30 lbs of boost.
Rebuilt motor with new head, replaced injectors, coolant temp sensor, intake sensor manifold temp and pressure sensors, fuel temp and fuel regulator, crank sensor and pigtail.
Here was my crank sensor pigtail.... thought I found the problem when I saw this but nope......
I've had to rewire my harness before because there was a brake in it going to the iva solenoid before, so at this point.... I am thinking a new ecm harness may solve my issue.
