I made a thread awhile ago about how much money to bring with you starting out. The companies i'm looking at pay for your orientation and cdl training. It's tough for me to save a grand or more to take with me. Would $500 be ok if i'm getting paid during training anyway? They pay for your bus ticket and hotel stay and some meals so basically you just need it for extra food and emergency money to get home IF needed.

I do have a Walmart credit card with a $700 limit on it i can bring too.

That should be more than enough ....if fact if it gets out that you have money at all you will be a very popular guy in training...

My advice is to look plain. No flashy anything. If anyone starts phishing for info on how much money you have just play the "yeah, I am broke too" card.

That is what I plan on doing.

    Good luck!

Would that WM credit card satisfy a rental car company?. I figure that as long as I have the means to get a rental car then I am OK for transportation back home...and some place to sleep while on the journey there.

Only if it has a Visa or Mastercard attachment to it.

I don't think you can get a rental car with a WM card. I'd just take the bus If I were you, If it came to needing to go home. Most companies will advance you part of your check. You should call your companies payroll rep and see what your options there are. I went to cdl school with $600 and it lasted me to my first check.

How long til your first check? Depends where you are going, if hotel has a fridge then use it as it will save you a ton. If your paid weekly it's a two week wait for your first check, if you are paid every two weeks or bi monthly it will be nearly a month

Don't worry, if you get a decent trainer, he'll pay for everything!
