This is the harness that runs from the engine to the truck. It supplies the data to the truck from the engine.

If you took the truck to a shop and asked them to hook up the computer you could read the rpm at the ECM. If it doesn't work it may give you a better starting point for troubleshooting

My truck tachometer definitely runs straight from the ECM. I removed the 30 pin harness from the ECM and snugged up all of the female connectors inside the plug. It was a much more firm fit and I tightened up the small bolt accordingly. My tach went from not working at all, to working erraticly again. If I could find out which pin number on the cab side of that harness corresponds with K1 on the ECM side, I probably could narrow it down quite a bit. On a side note, I went over and checked and re-tightened any ground wires around the starter, alternator, and batteries. Everything looked good. Any suggestions?

In the plug - 123 across the top - abcde down the side ( upper section ) fghjk on the lower section -K1 in the plug is the lower left pin wire No 505- on the ecm pin K1 goes to the lower rh pin as your looking at the ecm

My 95 FLB detroit 60 DDEC II. i have a similar issue in that my tach is not working at all but i noticed i could tap the tach while driving and it would move and stick wherever it stopped.

Any ideas??? I'll check the connections and ground wires tonight in a few minutes. Is there a fuse for the tach? Also as he asked a few times, which wire on the back of the tach is the feed wire???
