Way to many variables to answer this... Gearing? Transmission? Why would you need a heavy spec truck? It would just reduce the amount of freight you can legally scale, and often reefer loads are right @ the limit...

 

Can't even estimate really... I've seen lightweight spec scale just under 17k, I've heard of 4 axle setups that scale at 23k. Way to many variables, you just have to get the specs from the seller.

 

Hi volvorg, 1st, I wish I could put up a billboard somewhere, "More HP does NOT mean less fuel mileage". I worked for many companies that thought that, and spec'd the trucks with small motors, and we struggled along with our feet to the floor at 58 mph and got 5-6mpg. Trucks seem to get about the same mileage regardless of the HP, so I say, get a big motor, that way you have power on tap when you need it, and can go easy on the pedal and get 7mpg ( or whatever) I drove a Freightliner with a 500 Detroit and we got 6.9 -7.1 all day long and rolled 70mph down and up. As far as heavy spec., that raises your empty weight and less net. Unless you are pulling 40 ton dozers, I don't think that's necessary. Good luck.

 

Heya, I can tell you the heavy spec volvo will weigh 20-24k bobtail, and the normal spec volvo will weigh 34-36k bobtail. Lol.

 

With higher horsepower you can stay in your taller gears longer . Best mpg in the highest gears

Also, a higher horsepower setup generally has a lot more torque. That is where you save your fuel if you don't drive it like you stole it. Bumped mine up 70hp and gained 200+ foot pounds of torque. Fuel mileage went up a full mile per gallon.
