If you can get to Guelph and work for Schneider, go with them.

They aren't the biggest trucking company in North America without reason.

Yea so far it's been only good things I herd about schneider and the school reimbursement is a bonus for me. that's why I was asking about ayr motor express because I know they drive by my home. But schneider pays to travel from here to guelph... it's hard to decide I can't afford to just wing it and take a chance I'm the only income at home.

There is a Pro North yard here in Sudbury, also. They hire rookies as far as I know. For Laidlaw, go to Sudbury Truck & Trailer, on whissel street in the flour mill. They have a little office/yard there. When you walk in the door, you can ask at the counter or look to the right and you'll see the little Laidlaw office.

Are you itching to get out onto the highway or up for anything? Going to be a lot of gravel hauler companies looking to hire soon, if spring ever does show up lol.

Laidlaw told me I needed at least a year, six months after I started with Schneider I was getting emails from their recruiter. Mckevvitt was six months doing local then otr. In the end I went with Schneider due to their training program, bonuses offered, tuition reimbursement and as mentioned they are the largest company around. Eight months in the three week out at a time is getting old pretty quick, that drive from Guelph to Sudbury and back feels like a thousand mile run

    TruckerBri Thanks this.

I start in-class Monday, so I should be done with the school around May 20th, I'm still working at my regular job until I can find a trucking company that suits my needs for now, I would prefer a company that is close for home time, but none offer any "bonus" or tuition reimbursement. So that means if I get a job with Mckevitt for example they told me as a recent graduate start local for 16$ then move up, so that way to low for my situation... and I thought manitoulin "prefers" to hire from Natt.
I will still go.talk to them make with luck. And from what I've been reading about Pronorth they got the same home time as Schneider.

If you don't mind a lot of lifting you should check out the food service companies like G.F.S., Sysco, or Flanagans. First 2 years of driving I spent delivering to restaurants in southern Ontario, great money and home everyday, I loved it but it's not for everyone.

There's something about automatic trucks and backing into rinky dink restaurants in alleyways on busy streets that my blood pressure probably couldn't handle anymore... I didn't mind doing it in a 5 ton though

    TruckerBri and Macneil Thank this.

I remember my 3rd day had to deliver to the University of Western Ontario in the underground dock, back down a tiny twisty road then blindside a 90 degree turn, down a hill and then 90 degree to the dock. All with cars parked in the no parking zone down the hill. I was looking it over and the receiver asked how long I had been driving, I asked him what time it was lol. Still would rather do that then put up with the attitude in downtown Toronto.

When #### hits the fan and I'm not out on the road, I run a heavy hook. Had to go rescue a GFS auto unit that had spun out trying to get behind a restaurant. I wouldn't have the patience either anymore lol.

For a rookie, it's great experience though. Teaches you where your vehicle can and can't go and you don't have to worry about shiftin gears!

Only time I ever drove an automatic was doing linehaul to Thunder Bay, boring flat Highway 11. Auto would have been nice doing deliveries but then again I think it's better to shift your own, especially when starting out. Was nice with the auto though, set the cruise and grab a coffee lol, engine break would even kick on automatically on the hills.
