You must've talked to an officer that was stating his own opinion of flags. I run thru Colorado all the time with a load that is under 9 wide tall and heavy and never have any problems with flags on all four corners of the unit along with the load. Most LEO's that I talk to like the extra visibility.

The quick Google search I did yielded this. "Oversize load signs are required front and rear for all oversize loads. Flags are required at any extremities for wide and over length loads". It doesn't say anything about requiring flags on tractor or trailer.

    Here's the M 938 PA provision sheet.

Here is technically what can and will happen if they stop you in PA and you are say 8'7" wide and grossing 200,000 lbs under permit and you have no flags on for the 1" overwidth.

They will tear up your permit. Doesn't sound like a big deal does it? Except now you are on the side of the road, 120,000 lbs over legal gross weight with NO PERMIT! You will then be cited for a permit violation and a gross weight violation for 120,000 lbs over. Easily a $10,000+ ticket if you don't fight it.

These kind of overweight tickets are a major revenue source for PA and they milk it every chance they get.

Oh I hear ya. I like to flag everything. I don't want to hear you didn't see me when when you ran into me from behind. (LOL) too bad we can't opt for the optional aft grenade launcher for stupid 4 wheelers who try to go around oversize loads. I'll see if I can find the Little Blue Colorado book with their rules in it.
