Yep, and if you want to do what I did with the head, (retainer fire ring insert) there is a boy down here in the lower 48 that can do it. SmokinCAT cat knows who. I truly belive this cures the headgasket issues with these engines.

Just curious, what advantage does a lower comp. ratio give? Is is less "pressure" on the crank without sacrificing power and economy. Sorry if this is too basic, but I am not a mechanic.

All I can say, is when it boosts up, you can't feel in run anymore, you can hear it, but there is no motor vibration. And MPG seems to be better. Only downfall I have had, is when it's -20 or so, and the winds blowing, and the temp goes down, it smokes blue and misses a little until you get the loose up for the first time, after idling.

A diesel loves heat. With those low comp pistons your running that is why it smokes blue smoke. Just the nature of the beast that you have. I bet once you get some heat in it. It clears up.

More air and fuel can be introduced without the cylinder pressure = longevity of engine life. I run the 7172's with 58 injectors and big windmill. 782 hp as of right now. Egt's never get over 950deg. Watertemp runs at 185deg. See's 200deg. But really have to work it hard to get it up there.

Wouldn't the harmonic balancer have something to do with the crank breaking ?

3466615 is the new number for the piston...IPD has them now.....you will like the forty pin with the acert bottom end....depending on power you want...mill the pistons to get lower than 16:1.....I think 9wr is 14:1 not 14.7.....I recommend the guy Cody/smokin knows to fire ring head if leave twins on for sure... If go with forty pin...I'd do 5ek 550 camshaft....if Do 800 hp 130-9710. I'd go up two sizes to 211-3025.... Both those cams match the 40 pins well.....custom twins will work best.....but acert twins will work well.....once you get fuel to them let the waste gate work off its own air wheel.....will not be a dyno queen.....but will kick dyno queens butt on he street.....

As far as the balancer-breaking crank, that's a real long story, I'd rather not get into...... My plan, was the alert block, and 5ek everything else, except for a 9wr camshaft. Single turbo, maybe even stock. Not going for huge power, just a real live 550hp. Should be easy to do, with 58's and a 9wr cam. This engine spends hundreds of hours high idling, and gets stuck in blizzards where you cannot get water temp over 150, and the oil temp doesn't move, so I have to keep some of my combustion efficiency.

Living forever, with 550HP, is the goal, the less boost it takes to do that, the better off I am.
