Have a Midland 5001z and have had it for a few years. I had turned the modulations up myself and ran it for a long time that way. always told by CB guys at truck stops sounds loud and clear and they would not mess with it.

Well, Since coming off the road I have installed it in my pickup truck. Hard wired to the battery, good clean ground, antenna is grounded too. Pick up everything loud and clear.

However, when I key to talk, I get the red light that it is keyed but needle pulls "down" and wont swing up at all nor do I broadcast.

betting its the mic but dont see how when I get the red light that I am keying up?

    Thoughts????

I don't get what you mean by the needle pulls down but I am thinking you need to check your antenna first, have your antenna tested by someone with an antenna analyser.

well with the needle it could be resting a little to the right, when I key it pulls all the way to the left. The antenna is not old. Think i just need a new radio...lol

NO you need to either get it repaired (burn out the final) or you have a bad antenna system.

Either way, get someone to look at it who has a dummy load and an antenna analyser.
