Has anyone seen or have any suggestions on mounting a 102 on a Pete 579? Putting my Texas Starr 667 in my new Pete and trying to come up with a mounting location for a 102. At first I was thinking off the back of the sleeper till I realized I can't get 24" of clearance off the back of my sleeper with my hose rack where it is. No, it's not moveable, or at least I'm not moving the dam thing. The only idea I've come up with would be to use a flat bar pickup truck mount off either one of the bolts on the rear of my drivers side top steps, so it would stick up where my stacks would be. I run grass burner exhaust. Or, same mount off the support rod on the rear drivers side front bumper. But I'm looking for suggestions if anybody else is currently or has used in the past a 102 on a 579.

I could be wrong but placing it anywhere alongside the all aluminium sleeper would make getting a good SWR reading hard. I think a better location is the mirror mount like a Cascadia angled forward enough to clear 13'6". @volvo244t had a picture of his 102", same idea.

Not possible on Peterbilt. Your right about the swr though. I'm just really nervous about the bumper mount getting hit or vandalized. Not to mention a coax run next to the motor is never a good idea.

    OH please ;)

YOU got a lot of room under the hood.

Run the coax along the inside of the frame in some protective tubing like that spilt plastic stuff, make sure that it is not exposed to oil (directly) or exhaust heat and it will be alright.

Thanks for this, I needed a good laugh. It's a Pete! It marks its territory constantly.

If its not possible, then I'd consider the the poor swr on the step vs. rewiring new coax to the original mount with a shorter antenna. <--my guess is you'll find better performance from a shorter antenna and better swr, than a 102 performing at 1:2.0+ with most of the counterpoise reflecting parallel?

If the body of the truck is all plastic why not stack a couple dipoles

Have to be from stock location, mirror mounts won't attach as there are no fasteners accessible. Not sure how the spot mirror mount would work on the passenger side for that purpose.
