Yea, I have short necked a multi axle before. But a lot depends on the ld. sitting on the deck and what kind of turns or backing need to be done.. Ever go to P/ H yard in Milwaukee....
I repowered a ld going there on a 13 axle.. Guy says hang a left and back into the bay up on the hill.. I'm looking around and see where there turn is. Ok no problem. Then you back up at an angle dodging the r.r. tracks and it dips down and then rises back up.. Not a straight shot.. I'm like you really need a steerable for this.. Well yes, but guys have done it.
So I make the turn. lock the stinger in place and install the lock bars.. Block the walking beam and drop the air on the stinger..
45 mins later I'm in the door.. Plus one bent lock bar..
Would of been nice if I could of dropped the jeep, but the trl. I had was a light weight trl. the company had built.. A modifed hyd. jeep setup with a mech. neck and power tower in the jeep.. Not able to short neck those trls.
