Have either of you had your own numbers before? I have and gladly give F2F 20% to have them do all the paperwork, record keeping, collections, weekly settlements, etc.. Instead of spending all the time doing that, I can spend it with my family.
F2F is self dispatch. If he booked the loads, he should have completed them before quitting. 2 service failures only hurts the rest of us.ruffrider Thanks this. -
Hmmmm......
HDFatboy, I know family is important,(Its #1 on my priority list also)..
But How in the Heck can you justify giving up 20% (On top of the probable 15-30% from a 3pl) Just to have them record keep for you and Do your Billing?
That's Not good..
But Just to ease our minds, Lets do the Math,
Assuming you make $3000 per week, your giving this f2f $600 per week Just to do an hour or 2 of paperwork in the luxury of your own home? That's $600 per week, $2400 per month and $28,000 per year of hard earned money your giving someone else that probably gets it done in 15 minutes!!! That's a CRIME! and not too smart.
It takes ME 1 hour at best to Bill my customers, Sort receipts,Add mileages,And Im Done.
I spend more time Greasing the truck than In my office.deckeralliance, skinnyb01, HopeOverMope and 1 other person Thank this. -
We also provide the motor carrier liability insurance ($1 million) and cargo insurance ($250k). And drug testing compliance. And we handle the record retention. There's more, but that's the big ones that come to mind right away. The insurance alone is worth about half of F2F's cut, when you look at what a new MC will pay for that level of insurance.MidWest_MacDaddy, HDFatboy, ruffrider and 3 others Thank this.

You guys that harp on this continually live under the wrong headed assumption all 3PL freight is bad. There's good and bad through all sources of freight. Don't you think after 6 years in business that we might actually have some decent relationships there? There's value in that cut like with any company. Some moreso than others.spectacle13, scottlav46, MidWest_MacDaddy and 3 others Thank this.

Amen to that. So what's the deal coal, are they paying or circling the drain?skateboardman and CJndaTruck Thank this.

I don't care if someone leases onto a carrier or does their own deal, to each their own.
I'm on my own, my insurance is $9038 for 2016. $3000 of that is for my truck and trailer, the remainder is the liability and cargo insurance, etc.
What I'm trying to say is, when people say that their insurance cost is 9, 10, 15 grand or whatever number, truck and trailer insurance is more than likely included in that number. So the insurance for the authority is actually not as bad as what some people make it out to be.insertnamehere, BoostedTeg, Lone Ranger 13 and 3 others Thank this. -
As if you actually give a rat's ### one way or another? The lesson from this is there's a right way to quit and a wrong way. Some people lose their rational thinking and go about these things wrongheaded causes themselves more pain than is really necessary.

Ok,That clears that up then, I was under the assumption HDFatboy was using his own authority having f2f find him work and do his compliance and Billing..........
He's under f2f's authority..OK Then 20% industry standardHDFatboy Thanks this. -
Our insurance includes trailer insurance on company trailers and $250k cargo coverage. Most independents go with $100k cargo. That extra $150k ain't free. So, okay, let's say it's worth about 1/3 of the 20%. There are other valuable things we bring to the table. FMCSA audit? You keep running while we have someone whose job it is to sit down with the auditor. Large cargo claim? You keep running while we have someone whose job it is to wrangle with the lawyers, insurance companies, broker, and shipper (this happened last fall as a matter of fact).
I'm glad you're doing well with your own authority. One of the reasons F2F was formed was to help people who want something between a mileage lease and their own authority, as a sort of stepping stone. Almost a mentorship. We've had one just recently, who got his authority and left us on good terms. He's still our friend, and he's doing great with his own company.
I'm not management here at F2F. I'm just an employee and a former driver. If I hadn't bought the wrong truck and had it eat my $40k maintenance fund in 6 months, I'd probably still be on the road. I was leased on with Landstar, but if I had back the Freightshaker that I traded in on the Prostar that broke me, knowing what I know now, I'd put the F2F logo on it in a heartbeat.Mitchell Headen and HDFatboy Thank this.
