Cool. I had a bad trainer. Didnt realize it till I was on my own. I had to teach myself a lot like how to check tread depth. How to fix things on the truck etc. How to trip plan.TequilaSunrise, Thull and FerrissWheel Thank this.

What things on the truck should a student be learning to fix? One doesn't hear too much about this.
God bless every American and their families! God bless the U.S.A.! -
It stinks but there a lot of em out there. I'm often too good. Most wanna be reefer drivers want nothing to do with priming a reefer. "I'll just call breakdown." "And breakdown is going to go over the step by step process of how to prime a reefer."
But I rember getting out on my own too, trip planning was never really covered. I ###### up early on because of it. But somehow I came through, and now I'm trying to give the new guys a better education than I had.Thull and CrappieJunkie Thank this. -
If I high hook and how not to high hook. Replace a light bulb. How to adjust the tandems.MidwestResident Thanks this.

He taught me how to trip plan based on running teams like we were somewhat. I would drive full 10 with him next to me then hed drive 4 or 5 while I slept. Do 10 back at it again.FerrissWheel Thanks this.

Ahh. Fell for that one myself, ran it to the limit. Came close to back firing big time when I got delayed early on. Ended up getting delayed and I couldn't make it to where I planned to stop, ended up spotting a casino, hit the ramp, went on duty, and kept it under 10mph till I finally got to the casino. That was a valuable nerve racking lesson.
