In all fairness I had to drive a mile north of the pilot to gain some altitude in order to achieve that but technically I was within a mile from the pilot

You get a better radiation pattern in the center of the roof. Is that a magnet mount? I thought it was an nmo mount at first glance.

Gold Tahoe ball mount/fiberglass whip.
Black Tahoe Wilson 5k roof mount/ hole in roof. -
So you got a good antenna, good placement, good ground plane. No wonder you're getting out. You got like the perfect setup.
rabbiporkchop Thanks this. -
Hell if i could get my stryker tuned by hard drive mine would get a lil firther than a few miles and hopefully without alot of white noise..200 mi east of houston now and stealing wifi so ill not see this rey till im back in canada....Anyone know if hd's site actually works..I see a cpl pics and thats it..Contact info doesnt work when you hit the link....I watch his vids on youtube and he says his site but cant do anything with it..

I could give my vehicle minus the radio to almost anybody in the country and I guarantee that whoever ended up with my vehicle would not achieve the same results unless it involved the same technician that tuned my station. The guy that bought the Grand Cherokee was sitting right next to me scratching his head trying to figure out why his Stryker SR-655HPC going into a sweet 16 was unable to transmit as far as my much smaller station even though we were parked side by side.(he was using a more efficient 102" stainless steel whip as well)

Installed the 7ft skipshooter. 1.4 swr 53 ohms at 27.185 goes to 1.3 about 27.255. Tried a 102 inch whip thought it might be better, nope, 2.0 swr right off so concentrated on skipshooter. Cut approximately 2 ft pvc pipe and slid it over antenna. Used one layer of heat shrink tubing around the ferrule area to make it snug. On the upper end put a layer of heat shrink tubing, wrapped that with a narrow plastic spiral wiring loom and came back over top that with another bit of heat shrink tubing to snug that section up. Antenna doesn't seem to wag as much now as the 5.5ft francis did.. Suspect with the weight the mount may be the weakest point now.

I'll never mount anything on the driver's side of a cascsdia again. All the passenger side guys have been right. And the mirror arm is too low regardless the length of the antenna. Can't help but laugh whenever I see these long, huge, expensive antennas on the wrong side now. Hell, I'm sure I could use a cheap 5' Francis where I have mine now and it be awesome! I got the load, and 2/3rds of the antenna above the cab. With no other interference around, I can have squelch and gain wide open on a non Shurman tuned radio with low noise and high tone. I don't have to build a contraption, or have a comical lean to my antenna either.Last edited: Apr 25, 2016

Problem with the right side is it probably won't last long over there.slim6596 Thanks this.
