I've done the math on the various ways to earn dollars running a truck, I can't remember. (Of course, I'm a 72 year old hippy, and I can't remember a whole lot of stuff. I've gotten to where I only remember stuff I care about) $2/mile is good, but not so great if you're paying all the bills out of that. Plates, insurances, tires, fuel at pump price, there's even a lot of load chasing and bookkeeping involved.
I'd like to run as an I/C for a year or so, to a company that does the percentage pay with good support, mostly fuel discount. I'm not really overly concerned about low frequency stuff like tire discounts and retention pay. If I was running 5 or 10 trucks, it might look a little different. I've looked at many per-mile companies, but overall picture, total compensation, I haven't run into any body ahead of Conway on the bottom line. Example: Swift says a big $1.08/mile, woohoo. Page 2: They keep the large part of the fuel surcharge, run really bad trailers and offer low grade DM's.
Now that I don't have that $1,221/month to manage, just my mortgage and home expenses, things will open up for me and my choices. I think freight is moving a little better, too, that's important for any changes. Thx, Terry, Red

When ever you are tempted to buy something new to replace something that is old but good, remember the phrase "The grass is always greener on the other side of the fence" It is greener because it is covered in manure and will stink when you get over there. Keep the old truck.
ramblingman, Starboyjim and bzinger Thank this. -
That's funny you said that, Zinger. I have noticed a decided lack of Will to Work lately. Also, it's kind of nice how fast money is accumulating in my direct deposit account. I'll be running my truck for a while, Dryver, it's running great and I have no wish to resume paying somebody for using their money.
bzinger Thanks this. -
Funny. These Detroit 60 Series really last a long time.
