Thank yall for all the advice! Really helpful. Yea I would consider ltl but being on call for so long and not knowing what you would be making week to week. Fuel is more consistent and the drivers I talked to at gas stations love it.

Gas sucks period.....
Weekends and holidays are a must.
And your outside all the time . Nothing like unloading on a hot sunny day with a aluminum wall behind you. Might as well be on a cookie sheet. And you better have your hard hat and high vis on.
Dealing with the loading racks isn't all fun and games either. They are mostly antiques and and everything is always your fault.
The rates both company driver and hired truck are in the toilet... The majors have mostly dumped their trucks and a bidding war for the work has killed the rates.
Those major drivers were making 80k and up 20 years ago. With full benifits . Overtime after 8 bla bla bla.
It is better than running the road and bumping docks but it's like everything else these days. Nothing like what it used to be .Derailed Thanks this. -
8o to 90k are still out there. Just keep on looking and you may find it. Weekend and holiday is ok. Matter of fact, less traffic during those day and it beat OTR any day. You get to be home every day. Home cook meal

I had contemplated putting my truck on with a company here pulling tanks after the big drop off in freight last year. I have to say I was taken back at how low the rates are hauling jet A and fuel. I know there are some good size new companies that weren't around 15 or 20 years ago that are part of the mix but I didn't think it was this bad.

The guys hauling dirt are making as much as the gas haulers around me........
Canned Spam Thanks this. -
Sounds like it would be easier just to deliver diesel at the truck stops than deal with the cars only gas stations.
-
Nights are much easier when it comes to busy stations. Not as many idiots to deal with who don't understand why your trying to pull a tanker truck in the lot. Easier yet when they are closed all together at night

Kenan asked was it ok if they checked my credit when I was there

Another piece of advice:
RESPECT THAT WAGON YOURE PULLING!!!...sometimes we tend to get comfortable an forget that we are pulling a baby refinery on wheels lol.
There is very little room for error when dealing with gasoline.
I had a friend of mine lose her life to that wagon about a week ago....a simple mistake turned out to be fatal for her an almost cost her trainee his life as well but he was able to be pulled from wreckage before the fire got too hot to withstand -
I am sorry to hear about that and am sorry for your loss.
