I'm now curious what my kind if any transformer my RCI 198 has in it ? Seems to sound louder and clearer than my original RK 56's, and I have the original one's.

Turner was the only company anal enough to put a matching Transformer inside the microphone to compensate for such a minute mismatch.
-
I revoke my previous statement because I just realize Turner had lots of competitors that tried to copy their basic design and a lot of the cheaper Chinese clones did use a Transformer of some sort of dubious quality
-
I just realized my astatic 551 also came with a transformer for high or low impedance as well but that thing was made back in the seventies when Americans took pride in the stuff they made
-
It needs to fit inside the case of a microphone without interfering with putting the case together or interfering with the switch mechanism. The Turner Transformer Is about 1/2" cubed.

Primary winding DC resistance 22 ohms.
Secondary winding DC resistance 92 ohms. -
I'm still looking, I have to go thought maybe 3000 transformers I have in storage, most are marked but you want mini/micro ones so it takes a bit of time. Went through (actually my daughter did) two crates I have here at this house and found about a dozen mini transformers that use toroids so I have to test them.
What I didn't expect to do is start a project on a cascadia this weekend, the owner of the truck has it here for a few days as he does his home time thing so he talked me into working on that. I'll tell you later what we did. We got the ground plane for the truck finished, today is the mount and grounding put in as the interior is put back into the truck. I hate that truck, it is a true engineering POS.rabbiporkchop Thanks this. -
Watch "CBRT, STBR, Mic test Astatic 636L and Road King RK56" on YouTube
rk56 with transformer
636L without transformer
similar elements with identical impedanceDiesel Dave Thanks this. -
Would like to see one between the RCI 198 and the RK 56.
