In defense of Swift and any other truck co, that installs "safety devices".........if drivers would quit wrecking trucks, jackknifing, rear-ending cars etc. they wouldn't be needed. I know, I know, sometimes it's not the truck drivers fault. But bad truck drivers need to fess up and be more professional. A 4 wheeler can "set up" a truck and then sue for big bucks, right ? I think it's safe to say 75% of truck accidents can be avoided, such as, putting it in the ditch after falling asleep, rear ending stopped traffic, because driver not being observant, and my favorite, ripping off someome's hood coming out of the local Pilot, because driver not paying attention !
I'm going to quit swift

While i do agree with what you are saying I believe the companies bare the greater responsibility for all these accidents.
If they would have never lowered their hiring requirements and training procedures we would not see all this.
Also, the majority of the drivers who commit these accidents usually end up fired leaving the responsible drivers paying the price...
The biggest reason companies want all these controls on trucks is to enable them to continue to hire incompetent "cheap" drivers.Frank Speak, 1951 ford, sevenmph and 10 others Thank this. -
Truck co's promise "fast" delivery and customers expect it. The problem is, it's at the expense of the truck driver. Minimal sleep get it done attitude of trucking co. So, accidents happen. Tough business. Lifestyle ain't for everyone, so, big turnover. States need to accept some responsibility, since new drivers can get licensed and cut loose with minimal training. It doesn't happen in the airline industry or rail or ships.

Truckers have been crashing trucks since the begining of trucking. These big companies get all these saftey features to keep the insurance companies happy and to cover they're butt in an accident.

the company I drive for has trucks utilizing said safety features. I manage to drive 600 miles a night without the trucks crash avoidance system activating. came back in rush hour traffic 4x this week, no events. the lane alert is quite the pain because it is not very accurate and still buzzes even when the turn signal is in use. they aren't terrible systems and certainly not 100% reliable yet. learn to drive the truck accordingly. I don't work for a huge company nor is my labor cheap, this is simply the future.

GOOD! I'm sick and tired of seeing big trucks making lane changes without using a turn signal. It is illegal, dangerous, and rude.Steerswithears, Thuggishcoot, Frank Speak and 5 others Thank this.

When i use turn signals the 4 wheelers use that as a signal to hurry up and cut me off.Friday, Lone Ranger 13, Thuggishcoot and 14 others Thank this.

All I can say is I'm glad I'm 64 years old because the future sucks. There is always going to be accidents no matter how much safety junk they put in the trucks. What I would like to know is, how does a person get a CDL that can only speak 4 or 5 words of English.Whiteline64, TequilaSunrise, rachi and 7 others Thank this.
