How's the rates out there since spring has sprung. I've been on a dedicated local gig all winter and it's gotten to the point of either putting a side kit on my step deck ( doesn't even sound right ) or getting back out on the road. Rates took a dive towards the end of 2015 & I lucked into a steady local gravy haul but now it's contract & commitment time or else back to the old road. Are ya'll seeing rates/volume improve any out there? I have a couple of old customers to fall back on hopefully but back hauls were getting scary for me last year. We used to be able to bounce around and make a dollar easy enough once upon a time though
I pull a step with ramps out of Tennessee mostly east of K.C. if it matters.....
Thanks
Rates these days???

My rates held steady out ofOmaha all winter with my flat with side kit ..2300 to Laredo every week , now for some reason they have fallen off a few hundred , was offered an 1800 load to Laredo yesterday and told em I'd stay home for that .
Son and passingthru69 Thank this. -
I hate to hear that but not surprised I guess. Dang. The old KW is starting to show its age & cost a bit. Spec'd out a glider I'm trying to talk myself out of before I do something stupid.....

Anyway Folks......Yeah, Rates are Bad,
Regular steel run I have from Chicago to York,Pa... 680 miles $165 in tolls....Started out @ a $2,044.00 move..
Customer shows his loyalty to himself lately as I question a $1630.000 Target rate.Son Thanks this. -
I can't say much about rates since I'm a company driver, but steel freight for us is still slow coming out of the Illinois, Michigan, Ontario region and lumber demand from Western Canada is only slightly better than it was since December. Things SEEM to be picking up a bit now that the Canadian dollar is recovering, but manufacturers still aren't going nuts like they were last spring.
I remember this time last year, our one trailer yard (stuff going west) was pretty much full of loaded trailers all week long (stuff moving in and out) and we maybe had 5-7 empties to play with... now it's loaded with empties and maybe has 5-7 loaded on any particular day of the week. Friday's usually end up with a lot of stuff moving down into the US, but very little is still going West.
Just some added perspective if anyone might benefit from it (i.e. might be easier to run out of Canada than in for right now).Son Thanks this. -
