Wish I could go that route, but just not practical for me.

Not many ask what's the best training they ask who has the shortest training.Company sponsored schools pretty much have the same training,it all depends on the trainer. All these schools have newbies for trainers.Think all you need is six months exp to be a trainer maybe even less then that depending on the company. So it's basically a roll of the dice on what kind of training you'll receive. If you was to attend say a college or truck driving school for your cdl then you could pick and choose the company and there are some that have long training like four months and probably experienced drivers for trainers but they don't have company sponsored schools I don't think.

Healthcare IS great. I've been involved in public safety and patient care for almost 30 years now. I work 3 days a week, 12 hour shifts. I make decent money. I enjoy my job.....but, I want something different. I love being on the road, driven cross country multiple times pulling trailers and crap, slept in parking lots, had lot lizards pounding on my window, driven 180-70-90 a bunch staring at the endless wheat and corn fields and I had a great time doing it.

I've worked in the ER and ICU for quite awhile. My job won't be outsourced and if I feel like trucking isn't what I hoped, then I still have a medical license in a few different states. Going back wouldn't be too tough.

Out of all the shippers, receivers, and DOT officers I've met...

...I've never had to clean their bed pan.

    There's that.

I read that something like 85% of new truck drivers don't make it past the six month mark. The cards are stacked against you but try it for yourself and you'll decide.

Couple of Prime tanker drivers posted they haul tanker loads of wine out of California to points East.
If you go that route, tell Prime you want a full size truck, not a lightweight.

I worked at one place, when you calculated all the time that I was out, not taking my ten, I was making less than minimum! A pick up in the am in Ohio, doesn't deliver in Ft. Wayne, about 200 miles away until 8:00 am tomorrow. What a waste of time! If I could have gotten 70 hours straight time in retail, I would have taken it over driving a truck.
