Man we all have different ideas of "cheap". I still hold that 3$+ per mile is perfectly reasonable. I'm only pulling for one customer now so I might be alittle out of touch. I know I have a good friend, a younger guy who just started driving for Crete. He said he can buy a truck & lease to them for 1.14cpm! oh plus fsc @.14cpm. huh? Who does this crap? Operating expenses for 2015 was 1.16 on paid off equipment for me last year, so that's a net of 12 cents a mile assuming they pay all miles not just dispatched/loaded. Jesus folks, you don't have to be poor just cause you drive a truck. Shoot for the stars & you might hit one!
I still have brokers calling me on loads every day, I give them a high rate & an ear full to try to help the next guy out.

I generally only pull for 3 customers and no brokers are involved so I'm kinda insulated too ...

My average for the year leased to a carrier is just over 2 all miles, after everything (tarp fsc and other accessorials, but also after my carriers cut). But it's not as easy as it used to be. Having to commit a lot more time to searching our load board for the good loads, and being much more selective about what lanes to run.

Last year I averaged decent money for all miles. This year is alleged to be quite busy at several of my larger customers. Remains to be seen. Plus last year I did a couple things that I charged obscene money for. Doubt that's gonna come round again :/

I'm not to concerned about the rate drop in my area , I noticed last week things were getting stacked up at the border so the shippers up here are not feeling really motivated to move product so I'm not feeling motivated either and driving my recliner today .
