    If you are going to make it as a OO running on % you need to quit thinking how many miles you can run and start looking at money.

    I'm already making it as an OO, but if someone leases onto landstar and has a team who is running 2k miles a week then it doesn't matter who you are; you won't make money to keep the lights on teddy.

    This is true to a certain extent but Old Man's comment is also correct. We didn't start doing well until we quit chasing miles and stated chasing revenue. We've generated $9728 over an 8-day period ending this past Saturday. It was a little
    Bit of a fluke, granted. But overall our numbers have gotten better once we made that mental shift. Just don't count on team miles right away. AND make sure you have plenty of reserve in the bank.

    Since you're self-dispatched the miles are entirely up to you. Freight is a little slow right now and you have to keep an eye on where you're headed to either make sure you don't end up somewhere you'd have to deadhead a long ways to PU your next load, or at least plan accordingly. Such as the rate going in pays well enough to justify the deadhead you might incurr

    That's the exact attitude old man is talking about. There's a few teams that do low miles like that who drive brand new $250,000 trucks with $70,000 trailers. Go ahead and think you know everything. One of them is a member here and just bought a new completely custom conestoga. Would you rather run 2500 miles at $3 or 5000 at 1.75?

    Here's a good example of that, taken directly from our numbers:

    January: 8722 Miles, $8105 Gross Rev, $.93/mile
    February: 6685 Miles, $7155 Gross Rev, $1.07/mile
    March: 2707 Miles, $3985 Gross Rev, $1.47/mile
    April so far: 4312 Miles, $12,250 Gross Rev, $2.84/mile

    KW600: As you can see the miles don't matter, it's waiting for loads that pay good and staying out of freight lanes that don't have good paying freight

    Let me clarify that I've been doing this for many years and know what I'm doing, or else I wouldn't be where I'm at today.
    In regards to the team mileage statement that mileage does matter: if I put a team in the truck and they are not running enough miles for me to have a profit at the end of the day then they shouldn't even be running.
    If they run a low mileage run and don't bring in anything, I'd rather put a solo in the truck doing the same miles and actually have a profit.

    There would be no point in putting a team in a load that a solo can do, but having to pay two guys instead of one
    That is why I asked if there was team runs

    Some things require teams when a solo can do it. They also pay very well. You want to hit your revenue goals running as few miles as possible. I could care less if I run 1,000 miles a week if I hit my revenue goals. If I had a team bringing 8-10k in revenue on 3,000 miles, I wouldn't be complaining they weren't running enough miles.

    If you want a lot of miles go to a mileage company so don't have to worry about where you run, just rack up miles. No looking for loads, no planning, just take what they give you and go. You make as much as the guy that has been there 10 years.
    Go to a % based operation and in time you can work your way into some very good loads, all based on your ability to communicate and provide good service. There are trucks at LS that make a lot of money, but they didn't start there day one, they were willing to work their way up.[/QUOTE]

    is that what your check stubs read or what the GROSS was that landstar billed out? I'm just attempting to clarify this as I'm not understanding I'm assuming that's the 65% that you were paid correct?
